They have a very annoying web-referral thingy. If I type the US site into the browser (or link from Lerner's post) I get diverted to the Canadian School - Herzing College. I switched browsers etc., but I could find no way around it. I cannot access the American site at all from here in Canada. Does it have military secrets?

The Canadian school, Herzing College, offers vocational diploma programs only - it is not authorized to offer any degrees in Canada. I feel I should be able to access both sites - and this school's "net-nanny" failure to treat me as a grown-up has annoyed me. It's like Jerry Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi." - "No degrees for you!"

They should follow the same protocol as other international schools. For instance, I can browse (or enrol in) degree courses from Penn Foster, OR take a course from the affiliated non-degree-granting ICS Canada, as I choose.

Incidentally, Herzing advertises on this site.

Don't worry, there's not much to see here. If you take courses at a full time pace all year long you can graduate in three years, but that's true anywhere. It's slightly cool you can apply four courses to both your Bachelor's and an MBA, but that's hardly a revolution.

"Soup Nazi" - for those who don't remember, was a Seinfeld Show character. The Soup Nazi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thanks, Steve. I'll take your word for it. I'm not worried, but I AM irritated. Maybe that was their evil intent. I felt I should be able to see their site, whatever its contents. Censorship! Discrimination! :jester:

This pretty much sums up the thoughts I had when seeing this thread this morning.

There is nothing special about the Herzing program.

I wander how the degree compares to UK 3 year BEng and 4 year MEng?
Did anybody ever evaluated UK 3 year BEng to US BScEng?

3 years of the UK, Australia and SA are normally equivalent to a 4 year American degree. The reason is because general education courses are covered in the UK,Australia and SA system before the students gets into University so the programs are shorter.

There are a few ways to circumvent that type of "censorship". The easiest one is probably the use of an anonymizer service. A quite old (and old-fashioned) but still working free service is for instance this one: Anonymouse.org.
This URL works from Germany, where I am, and it should also work from Canada:

Welcome to Herzing University | Herzing University [Anonymoused]

    I hope that helps...

The very same is also true for virtually all Continental European countries. One very important part of the so called Bologna process (see: Bologna Process - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) was the introduction of standardized Bachelor's degrees all over Europe. The Bologna declaration technically allows both, 3 year and 4 year Bachelor's degrees, but the vast majority of European universities introduced UK-style 3 year degrees.

OK, I can see this for the BA. BS degree.

What about Masters degree? in USA its usually 2 years in some cases 18 months.

    In UK its a year.

It makes more sense to look at in terms of "credits" instead of "years". In terms of credits, the Herzing MBA program is 39 semester credits, which is similar to other US MBA programs.

Most US MBA programs are four semesters, which take two years after the bachelor's degree. Herzing's BS/MBA program includes four semesters worth of MBA classwork, but it only takes one year after the bachelor's degree. Why is the Herzing program shorter? Because:

    (1) If you enroll in the BS/MBA program, you can take 12 credits of MBA coursework as an undergraduate. Those 12 credits "double count" towards both the BS and the MBA. So after you graduate with a BS, you've already completed about 1 semester of MBA coursework. So you only need 3 more semesters to get the MBA.

    (2) Most US universities have 2 semesters per year, with a long break in the summer. But Herzing has 3 semesters per year, with no summer break. So if you have already completed the first semester of MBA work as an undergraduate, you can complete the next 3 semesters in one additional year at Herzing (with no summer break).

So Herzing's program is not that much different from other US programs. It just saves time by (1) squeezing 3 semesters into the year, instead of 2, by eliminating the summer break, and (2) removing 1 semester from the BA+MBA track by "double-counting" 12 credits towards both degrees.

Many US law schools do a similar thing, called a "3+3 program". You start taking law classes after 3 years of college. The first year of law school "double counts" towards both the BA degree and the JD degree. So you get a BA degree after 3 years of undergraduate + 1 year of law school. Then you get the JD degree after 2 more years of law school. So the BA+JD takes only 6 years, instead of the normal 7. In theory, you could accelerate it even more by moving to a 3-semester year, like Herzing.

Thanks for the reply. I understood that they offier 3 semesters etc.

In my reply comparing to UK BS and MS degrees, it was pointed to me that UK 3 year BS was equal to US 4 year BS because some classes in the area of general education are studied in high school etc. I understand that.

I still have a question about UK one year masters degree. IS it only offered for sandwich BS, MS 4 year or with 1 year placement 5 year situations?

Non research based MS degree in UK, is it 1 year of classes that equate to us 36 or 39 semester credits?
