Hi all, anyone have experience with a self-paced Associate's degree in early childhood education? I'm looking to get a feel for programs of this type (beyond the website/marketing info) from people who have experience.

Oh, I should add child development would be fine, too. Thanks!

    Thanks for your replies.

LearningAddict, how did you find the customer service at Ashworth?

It was shaky at first, but it improved over time. The tutors are incredible; courteous, well educated, and they make a real effort to get you the information you need. There will be a hiccup here and there with callback timing, and every now and then you'll get a customer service rep who is clearly not enjoying his/her job, but that's rare. All-in-all you're more than likely to have a good experience.

    Ashworth

Did you get a degree/certificate from Ashworth: If so, what subject? Did you have to have textbooks mailed to you? Do you work on one class at a time? Is it really mostly independent learning? What about the exams and assignments? Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for so many questions. I just want to learn all that I can about this type of program from people who have experience with them. Thank you for sharing.

Just as a point of clarification, most times when people use the term "self=paced" what they really mean is "accelerated." Sometimes though people mean "decelerated." What is your time frame?

Assuming you mean "accelerated" then the fastest possible way is to CLEP yourself to death and cash in your credits with one of the big 3.

I did get a degree from there, it was in Psychology. They do mail textbooks to you, and some classes have ebooks. I've been told that ebooks are being used a lot more there now, but I can't confirm to what extent. The first class always has an ebook so you can get started immediately after signing up, but I think it only covers a few lessons.

You can work on one class at a time, or have two at a time. It's pretty much all independent study with the exception of having contact with the tutors or joining a study group.

Regular exams are non-proctored, but semester exams are proctored. Most assignments will be in essay form.

I really do mean self-paced...lol. Self-paced learning can accelerate learning, depending on your situation.
