Hello all. I am narrowing down my choices for a distance learning DBA program, including EBS. For those currently matriculated there, how are the courses delivered? I understand you order the material (IBR 1,2,3) and receive them by mail. You can take tests twice a year. Is there any other faculty interaction? Are there online material available? If you have questions/issues, how can you resolve them?

I appreciate EBS is fairly standalone and am also considering University of Liverpool /Laureate online program as well. UofL seems more interactive. Manchester Business School also seems an interesting choice with some residency, which is fine with me.

Would very much appreciate your feedback.

You can also receive your books electronically, that is what I have done for mine so far (IBR 1 and 2) There is a Q&A area in each course that is monitored by EBS faculty members! Watercooler area is also great to connect with your fellow students, you will see I am pretty active there. (SRHinton)

Happy to answer any of your questions, I am about to take the IBR2 test in December, one left to go afterwards and then on to the 6 month period where I hammer out my research topic!

Hi Sam, checking back in with you. I understand you took the IBR2 test in December. How was that experience? How are you approaching developing your research topic?

Passed IBR2 in December and studying IBR3 now for the June exam date.

I have started linking and downloading articles in my area of interest, but that is as far as I have gotten at this point. I am hoping that after tax season wraps up that I can spend more time to that project as well. The goal would be to read and 'write up' a couple articles each week, all of which will help me to first develop my research proposal and then in my formal literature review.

I really like the school, very little fluff between you and your research assuming you already have an MBA. For those without that, they may require extra coursework if your graduate degree was in another area.

But it really comes down to the three "classes" which walk you through the dissertation process. IBR1, the research proposal, IBR2 is the Literature Review. IBR3, is the actual research methodology (Quan/Qual or both) and then the process of writing up results.

Pass those classes and you jump right into working on your research proposal. Once it is accepted, then you start your research!!

I know of one or two students in the program right now that sat and pass ALL THREE classes at once!

They have testing centers all over the USA. Basically they send me to a local Sylvan Learning Center where they proctor my exam. Not sure what they pay the testing center folks, but I am usually the only person there, my exam is like from 9am to 12:30. Once you register, they look for a local place and then let you know where it is. If you live really FAR out in the country somewhere you will probably have to drive back into the closest "city."

(Just googled it, Sylvan has over 800 locations...plus I am sure there are other similar type locations they can use)
