Hello there! I'd need some information to make my choice amongst the various Phd online offer.

I'm European and hold a JD and a MSc in business. I need to get a phd for c.v. reasons so i don't need to get it from Harvard...

    I live in Europe so:
    - it should be online, possibly with no residency periods,
    - as said before I'm not looking for the top ranked uni, also because I wouldn't have time to keep up but i don't want a phd mill either...
    - it should be cheap, i can't afford the US courses; I saw NCU and $51,000 it's really too much
    -field; business/policy/administration/law.

thanks in advance your your help.

Since your are European; have you look at British universities' program? Especially, limited residencies consider cheaper for you.

    - Lancaster University offers Ph.D in Management
    Tuition: UK/EU: £1,950 per year
    Minimum: 4 years

    - Leicester University's Ph.D in Management
    UK/EU Applicants - £15,305 (entire program)

I would recommend you Lancaster University's program. It is relative cheap for EU citizens, and residency travel and lodge are cheaper for American.

thank you very much! I'd also consider Lancaster since it's a way cheaper! one question is it a reputable university, isn't it?

Lancaster requires about one week per term in the UK. I'll ask Leicester

I'm not sure that non-EU students are still ineligible for research programmes through the Open University. Here's a page listing their programmes that are internationally available, but I think that's only supposed to be a list of taught programmes. For those interested in a research programme, it's probably worth asking them directly. (And reporting back, hopefully!)

I'm not sure that it's "non-EU students" that are ineligible, I think it's US students. I could be wrong.

For American standards, this actually low for a doctorate program. University of Chicago asks for the same for only one year of undergraduate studies.

The question is if a PhD from a NCU is worth that much. I think there is a market of people that just need an accredited PhD and it won't matter from where. I have met people that work a community colleges, small universities, administrators and professional adjuncts that are doing a PhD at NCU. However, this type of degree is not for everyone, not ideal for a young kid that wants to work at a 500 fortune company or want to break into academia.
