I'm looking for an Advanced Conversational Spanish class online that won't devour me.

Grammar would be ok. Literature would be a no-no as I would never pass a Lit class.

The easier the class the better. Yes, I'm serious. I'm AGED. And I'm terrible at Spanish. I'm not sure I will even be able to pass this class. I need as easy as possible.

The cheaper the tuition the better, too.

I'm really not looking for correspondence or offline classes. I'll never finish them. I've even tried TV tape classes before, but forget about them and flunk out.

I need a 4th year Advanced Spanish class, though I might be able to slide by with a 3rd year that's advanced enough.

This and a science class are the only thing standing between me and a degree.

What you have describe the way of Spanish learning experience for you, I don't think online class is for you. You should try local university/college in that matter. Learning a new language via distance learning, it seem to be require 70% of self study because you get lacking of classroom interaction or conversations. Unless you're trying to learn a new computer language, then distance learning with appropriate technology is the way to go.

    Advanced does not equal easy.

Definitely doesn't. I'm just looking for as "understandable" of a professor as possible. I've had some professors who think I should sound like a native Spanish speaker, and that's just never going to happen. I'm hoping someone who also has trouble in Spanish has managed to take an Advanced Spanish online class that and managed to pass it.

I wish I could do local, but that's unfortunately not an option for me right now. I don't think correspondence or classes with no scheduled exams or assignments would be for me, but I think online where there's a set schedule would be an option. It's really the self-study where you have to mail in assignments, wait for them to be graded, send in more assignments, schedule your own exams, then mail more assignments over and over again that I forgot about (or procrastinate) and flunk out of. If it's online where there's something due every week, I think I could do it.

I find Spanish offline or online incredibly difficult, and in-class speaking (English or Spanish) is extremely difficult for me. I would find it much too difficult to understand a professor speaking fast fluent Spanish in class. Online would let me read instead of hear and have time to look up dictionary words.

Have you thought about Rosetta Stone? Can you study using Rosetta Stone and then CLEP Spanish? I don't know where you live, but do you receive any Spanish TV stations or radio stations at all? Maybe watching some Spanish TV and listening to the radio could help you with your Spanish listening skills. Buena suerte en tus estudios.

Here are the links for Univision and Telemundo, check your local listings.

Gracias, necessito suerte en mis estudios. Unfortunately CLEP only goes up to the 2nd year of Spanish last I checked, and I'm needing 4th year (but might could swing by with an advanced 3rd year class). That's the problem I've been having with finding an online class too-- they're not at a high enough level.

I'll have to check out Telemundo. That could help me with my skills at least too. I hadn't thought of Spanish radio stations... perhaps Spanish music could help me too. Exposure like that couldn't hurt, and it's been a while since I tried immersing myself.
