I am looking into Bellevue Universities Flexxive Bachelor of Business Administration degree. They claim that you can take up to 30 credits for a flat $3000 and that it's competency based learning. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to take the full 30 credits during a 6 month term? How does competency based learning usually work?

Through testing, and lots of it. They may use CLEP credits, in which case you would take 5 tests that account for up to 6 credits each in general education. This would give you 30 total credits, all competency based and you'd be half way to your associates degree. By the way, I am a grad student at Bellevue and so far my experience, while not flawless, has been overall pretty terrific, I highly recommend them.

I already have an Associates Degree and am trying to find information about their new Flexxive Business Administration degree. They will not provide me any syllabuses, so I can't determine what is required. It is competency based, so I'm wondering if it is practical to take 7 to 10 classes per 6 month term.

i've sent 2 emails to the onestop@bellevue edu. Both asking for details on their flexxive program.

But i have not received a single reply so far.

It's probably something similar to WGU and NAU. 30 credits in 6 months sounds like a lot, but it might be possible if you're really dedicated. Competency-based programs let you satisfy a competency by either passing a quiz/test or getting at least a B on a paper or project.

It may be similar to WGU however I suggest you call, not email, the school and ask. I have always gotten great service when calling.

    Information about Flexxive

Yes, it is possible to take 30 hours, but all students start with 12 hours. If after a couple of months you are making good progress toward completion, you can add additional hours. For those with good time management skills and a drive to do the work, it's feasible, and there are students who have successfully done so.

Flexxive is competency based, but not in the sense that WGU or some of the other programs are. It's more mastery based. If you are good in a subject area, then you can get through the papers, tests, readings, activities quickly. If it's not something you are adept with, it will take you longer.

If you have questions, call Bellevue and ask for the Flexxive adviser. She's wonderful and will help you with any questions that you have. The number for Bellevue is 800.756.7920.
