If you complete portfolio assessment via test, term papers, etc, at TESC will Excelsior accept them as credit? Thanks in advance.

    Take care,

I'm been wondering about this as well. It appears that TESC will accept the CLEP exam for English Comp, for example, but Excelsior will not. I wonder if you pass English Comp via CLEP through TESC if that credit would transfer to Excelsior?

I believe the answer is no. When you send your TESC test to EC it won't show an English Comp. class but a clep test. EC will have you order a CLEP transcript and give you the appropriate credit. Now if you could get portfolio credit at TESC for previous work completed that would be different.

If I take TESC exams via portfolio assessment for courses in areas such as Gov't, Economics, History, then would Excelsior accept those portfolio credits from TESC? Thanks in advance.

    Take care,

Oh. I didn't realize that the transcript from TESC actually showed that credit was earned via CLEP. I thought it just showed up as a credit as if you had taken the class, been granted credit by porfolio, etc. Does anyone know what other kinds of distinctions show on a TESC transcript? I know some schools limit the amount of coursework that can be completed via CLEP. I wonder if it would cause problems if you decided to transfer your credit hours from TESC into a more traditional school. In terms of having the CLEP credit hours apply toward your degree, I mean.

    Hi Jojo

I don't think racking up credit at any of the Big 3 and then transfering is a very viable option. When schools go over a transcript for the transfer of credit they are very thorough. They are not going to accept transfer credit that they wouldn't normally. Some time ago Tom Head listed his Regent's transcript on AED. You can look it up via Google.com. It shows how these schools report credit and it is pretty specific where the credit came from.

A method that would likely work is to complete a BA/BS degree through one of the Big 3 and then apply to the school you are interested in. Students who already have a four year degree typically only have to complete the major requirements at a second school to obtain the degree. There are usually some minimum requirements like 30 semester hours. I hope this is of help.
