    Hi,

I am interested in completing my EdD and was wondering if there's any input on the Northeastern and Johns Hopkins programs. Is anyone enrolled in either and have any feedback they can share?

    Thanks!

I was in the same boat as you, looking hard at both programs, in fact I live in Northern Va. The tuition was the deciding factor for me. $1,300+ per credit vs. $641 ?!?!

Johns Hopkins is highly ranked but NEU is no slouch either. Also, the Ed.D programs at both schools don't exactly match up with each other so compare carefully. I wanted Organizational Leadership and JHU didn't have that exactly..
Btw, I got my acceptance letter to THE Northeastern University today..lol...

If rankings are important, JHU is a no brainer. Northeastern's EdD is done through their School of Professional Studies, so it's not even on the list of graduate schools of education. JHU's school of education is ranked second -- like, above number three, which is Harvard. So it depends what your goal is. If it's to become a university professor, JHU is the clear choice. Otherwise, well, it depends.

Steve you are correct. But remember, Ed.D folks usually aren't destined for the university classroom, at least not initially.

Yes, since for most it's not their goal. Most EdD degrees are earned by K-12 administrators. And for that, either school should do (although JHU specializes in it). But for those interested in being on a university's faculty, then considering how much competition there is, it's JHU or bust. And I say that as someone who was enrolled in Northeastern's program for a semester, liked it, and still do generally recommend it.

You liked Northeastern, huh ....I'm extremely glad to hear that.. I think also what comes into play is where you want to teach and with how much expereince will you have. A Ohio State Ph.D told me that if I wanted to teach at a Tier one research university, I better have a Ph.D, otherwise a Ed.D from a top 100 school will do nicely most places.
I find it interesting that there is a perception that a Ph. D from anywhere is equivalent to a Ed.D from a well known school. I sincerely hope that this trend doesn't continue.
Back to business, I wish the OP would have stated which programs he was looking at.
