    Hi --

I have been lurking here for a week or so and this is my first post.

I am wondering if anyone had any advice in terms of which exams are the best to take or are they basically all the same?

I am currently enrolled at Excelsior and it seems all of the above options are available.

Additionally, my employer does not reimburse me for the cost of tests and while the tests are not that expensive the text books and study materials really add to the cost. I have read about Instantcert on this site and I am wondering if there are any other suggestions in terms of costs effective ways to study aside from buying the test books and how critical other members feel it is to purchase the text books in order to pass the tests.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I took and passed several DANTES and CLEP exams cold....no studying. I only failed one, although it's been so long ago that I can't remember which now.

CLEP and DSST are the most common and straightforward.

freeclepprep.com is a great place to look for cheap or free resources.

For CLEP and DSST a list of suggested readings and sample exam questions are on their web sites. I would think that buying these books on-line, even if prior editions, would save you money. Also you could order these books through your local public library. I find lots of used text books in libsary sales.

Some colleges offer video courses that use videos from this site:

I earned credits in American Studies and in Astronomy using these videos.
