Hello! I go to an on-campus liberal arts school. I am currently majoring in Education P-5 and Special Education. I am 89 credits in, becuase I transferred to the university from a community college so I am only a year into my major courses. I live in Kentucky, and as of now, the state is going through a major education reform, and as of now I have 2 years left before my degree, and I am beginning to hate the things that I am being taught in my upper level education classes. It is summer break, and I DREAD going back to these classes, not to mention I do not think a teachers salery would be worth all of the money I would owe in student loans!!! I Love my special education classes, and i love my psychology classes. I am struggling with the idea of switching my major to psychology. I have always looked forward to these classes. I would like to become a school psychologist or a substance abuse councilor. I need some opinions on whether an undergrad bachelors in psychology would help to get me to either of these places. I realize I must have a masters degree, and I am fully prepared for that, but I am not sure whether or not a bachelors in psychology would get me there. And if I am not able to acheive that masters (I have three kids at home) what could I do with just a bachelors in Psychology?

Hi wgoins5356, a warm welcome to Degree Info. Here's some info on your posts not showing up: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/35100-new-users-ask-where-did-my-posts-go.html

A a teacher of many years, I can tell you that it is a tough profession where you have to enjoy the kids, or you will never last. However, hating the education classes does not mean you will hate being a teacher. I HATED those stupid education classes and I LOVE being a teacher. Moreover, I can tell you that most of what you learn in those classes is useless in the everyday life of a teacher; a complete waste of time and just the hoops you have to jump through to get in the door.

I don't know much about psychology, but I have heard from a number of sources that there are many people with bachelor's degrees in psych who can not find a job in their field.

Now, about taking out big student loans: Bad idea. You are correct to worry about being in debt for a degree. Where are you studying? It is likely that there are cheaper options out there for you to earn your credential. That's what we are all about here at DI; finding the best and cheapest options to get you where you need to go. Tell us about it and it is likely that someone will be able to point out something you might not know about.

Sorry for all of the cold water!
