The closest you'll come to medicine as a medical assistant is drawing blood. It's the lowest possible job in the doctor's office, and usually is so poorly paying that you'd be better off taking a job in retail.

If you're going to go to school, then do yourself a favor and aim higher.

I thought the lowest possible job at a Doctor's office is to clean/collect/bag medical waste.

    Medical assistants will do that.

I don't think this is a good choice of school. This summarizes a post of mine in another forum a while ago:

Considered by some a scam. Appears may be "accredited" by yet another scam. Skeptical Scalpel: School or Scam? St. Augustine School of Medical Assistants

    A brief quote:

Donald A. Balasa, JD, MBA, executive director and legal counsel for the American Association of Medical Assistants, has written about this school saying its ads are misleading and calling it a "diploma mill." [Here is a guide explaining how to spot a diploma mill.]

BTW - This school is also on the Oregon List

PS. I replied on the other forum to a one-off "Mono-poster" too. I think these guys are just trying to get a free ad for this unwonderful school.

Education is simply a tool that helps you reach your goals. So, if you want a useful answer, what are your actual goals?

The fact is, whether it is a scam or not, Physician Offices still are going to make the decsion to hire you and if they see you cannot perform the tasks safely and learn quickly, you won't keep your job very long! Medical Assistant is a certification level that works under the Healthcare Provider's license, so they are responsible for all your actions! Some Medical Offices train on the job for those who have a Phlebotomy certification and know how to take vital signs. After a year of experience, one can challenge the certification with various national organizations!

If this thread shows some interest, suggest bump to Nursing and medical related thread.

Can't argue here, Delta. I just don't like the idea of scam schools being able to stay in business and make money off the public - unsuspecting or not. Can't say I much care for employers (especially med. professionals) who are willing to hire people who they know went to bad schools, either. But I won't argue - it happens.

My point: force the really bad schools to close and you get rid of the problem. ..and I'll do anything I can to help!

On the other hand there are accredited schools that charge $20,000 for an associates degree in Medical Assisting with a starting wage of $10/hr. Sounds even more unscrupulous!

Degrees that read "Assistant/Assisting" in its billing just never sat well with me. It just feels like one of those "what were you thinking?" degrees that employers will look at and dismiss if it's not an employer directly related to the field it's in.

That said, if you can become certified with just a course, certificate, or diploma and it's all low-cost, then by all means go for it.

No. I don't think it's "best" for anyone. See my previous post:

    (1) Donald A. Balasa, JD, MBA, executive director and legal counsel for the American Association of Medical Assistants, has written about this school saying its ads are misleading and calling it a "diploma mill."

    (2) The school is on the "Oregon List," for starters... i.e. unaccredited.

I don't think a paper-thingy from this particular "school" really certifies the holder for anything...just my take - and that of the American Association of Medical Assistants.

    hello friends,

Is Medical Assistant industry is fastest growing industry with smart income package?

    Johann Well-Known Member

    Nope.

Certainly not a "smart income package" in the US. Perhaps it is, where Arnavkumar lives -- although I'm becoming convinced that there's a thriving local trade in spamming, there!

    I was speaking generally.

And you're wrong, Johann. A certificate like this will, in fact, help you certify... for unemployment benefits.

Right. I get it. Somehow, I doubt that Arnavkumar does...

In my opinion it is a good school.

Their programs are of a high level, a lot of other schools deliver poor courses which are useless in the field.
St. Augustine School of Medical Assistants on the other hand delivers courses that are what you need to get the job, no useless things that you'll never need.

Their prices are great as well, if you can get a friend to take the courses as well you get about 200$ per student. a great deal imho.

But, i'm kinda getting of topic here.

to answer your question: Yes, it's related to the medical field. And above all it's a great way to achieve the knowledge and experience you need to make it even further than just a medical assistant, i'd say it's a great way to begin.

It has become obvious "they" will relentlessly bombard these threads with nonsense about becoming a medical assistant. Questions like, "Is Medical Assisting in the medical field?" Whatever!:grumble:
