    Hey everyone,
I have a few FEMA credits and I'm looking to get some more. Can anyone help direct me into what FEMA credits I need and what is the best and cheapest online college to get my associates using FEMA credits? I have a few credits from my local college I earned over a decade ago in public speaking, probability & statistic, physcology, and computer that I'd like to transfer those if possible. Because I am a mom and full time employee, I'd have to take these courses online and cheap. I'd also like to make sure the school is accredited so I can transfer my associates degree to a local college in hopes to get my BA later in life (or after I hit the lottery, lol)... Thanks Again!

    Hi,

A few years ago on this forum, there were threads describing Frederick Community College's giving the student associate's degree credits for FEMA classes. Also described was the subsequent acceptance of FCC credits by other credit granting groups like TESC. You may want to do a search here for that FCC thread or just google it.

Good luck with your studies. Persevere and you will get there.

I don't think you can do it with FEMA credits alone. But it sounds like you're off to a good start. I would recommend taking a look at CLEP exams and see how many of those you can pass.

CLEP - College Level Examination Program (CLEP) -Save Time. Save Money. Take CLEP | College Board CLEP Site

In addition, you might want to take a look at the affordable online courses offered by Straighterline.

Online Courses - Distance Learning Courses - Online Classes for College Credit - StraighterLine | StraighterLine

If you combine the courses you've already completed with FEMA, CLEP and Straighterline courses, you could transfer to Charter Oak State College or Thomas Edison State College and graduate fairly inexpensively. Excelsior College is another good option but it does not accept FEMA credits as direct transfer.

    AV8R offers sound advice.

There are also DSST exams that provide college credit at low cost (some being upper division)

I don't think you can get an associate's degree in education using FEMA credits. The traditional colleges that accept FEMA credits usually do so toward emergency management programs. Thomas Edison State College and Charter Oak State College accept FEMA credits directly for free while everyone else will either charge you per credit hour or make you get the credits transcribed by someone else who will charge you. COSC only offers associate's degrees in general studies. COSC will only accept FEMA credits toward free electives. TESC will only accept FEMA credits toward free electives with the exception of two degree programs. FEMA credits can be used as area of study (major) electives in the Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness bachelor's degree program or as area of study credits for the AAS in Environmental, Safety, and Security Technologies. TESC does not have an associate's program in education.
