I took the GRE some time back and I recenty received this email from Vermont College:

Come hell or high water, I am going to get a masters degree. I’m sure I’ll get a masters degree at the university that I’m currently attending, but if not, then other colleges are available. ;)

Is Vermont College the same as the Union Institute that I’ve been reading about on this forum?

Yes, but it wasn't so few months back. The college used to be known as Vermont College of Norwich University until it was acquired by Union Institute and University last year. Steve Levicoff graduated from both schools so he may have more to say about the schools.

yes VT college is the Union etc.

Vermont College was purchased by Union Institute.
Union University Institute is supposed to be adding a new phd in education degree at the VT campus.
The phd program listed in the letter to you appears to be the Union phd. VT College did not have a phd program prior to the its being acquired.
    All the best!

The Vermont College program used to be part of Goddard College. Goddard ran into financial trouble and sold its Adult Degree Program to Norwich University. Norwich is a well-established military school. Dr. Levicoff and others have reported that Vermont College remained quite apart from Norwich, and operated from an off-campus location. It was last year that The Union Institute and University announced its acquisition of Vermont College.

Both programs (Union Graduate School and Vermont College) are based upon learning agreements. I wouldn't be surprised if, over time, Vermont College was fully absorbed into The Union. Then again, maybe they have a reason for keeping it distinct. After all, I doubt there was anything stopping Union all these years from introducing their own master's programs. They certainly didn't need Vermont College to do that, so maybe there is something else going on.

As a Union learner, I welcome the addition. Vermont College--whether at Goddard or Norwich--has been an exciting stalwart in distance education.

I wish Union would dump the goofy conglomeration of a name it has adopted--I really think "The Union Institute and University" is awkward.
