    Hello!

I would like to transfer my credits from my Argentinian University to Excelsior, they are asking me to have my courses evaluated by ECE and so I did, but I think there is a misunderstanding because in my country I had many courses with a 2 hours load but they were annual (8 months), here is the link to the study plan: Departamento de Ingeniería e Investigaciones Tecnológicas - Plan de estudio 1997 - Ingeniería Informática

The guys in ECE gave me 2 credits for those courses, which is useless for me because a 2 credits course will not be matched with any 3 credits course in US. I think they made a mistake because they are evaluating it as it was a semester course (ie 4 months), should I appeal the evaluation or I'm the one wrong?

    Thank you very much!

I agree! In US schools a quarter is 3 months and a semester is 4 months. If I took a 3 credit course in a quarter, I was awarded 2 semester hours of credit in transfer. Hence, if your term is 8 months, a 2 hour course should be worth 4 semester hours. Who knows how the appeal will turn out but good luck! Do you hold a degree from the Argentinian school?

Credit evaluation is not a precise science. My research showed considerable differences, when we submitted the same credentials to 9 or 10 different services. It might be worth the additional cost of having a second evaluation from a NACES member (Kizmet has given you the website), and if it is different, that is cause to appeal to ECE -- or even to Excelsior itself. I'm aware of one case where a person from Guyana was sure ECE was wrong, but lost his appeal -- and Excelsior accepted the evaluation of World Education Services. Good luck in your quest.

That's interesting -- I'd think that Guyanese credentials would be pretty easy to get right, since they'd map well to British ones.

John: This one had the added complication: the person's studies at Cyril Potter College included some credit for prior work done in India, and, IIRC, a bit of credit for experiential learning.

The same with my Wife, she has a Canadian College diploma and they evaluated every Canadian 3 credit course as a 2 credit in the US.

Try with WES and check the equivalency with them.

My wife was able to transfer the 2 credit courses into Excelsior for a BS in Liberal Studies. You should be able to transfer your 2 Argentinian credit courses for a BS in LS.
