I just this week spoke with a representative from Columbia Southern who claimed that they have within the past couple months applied for SACS regional accreditation, and hope to have candidate status by the first of 2003 and full status by 2004. Any comments?

  2. This would be truly stunning. If this happens, I shall join the Ken Kollective and start touting the benefits of foreign schools.

SACS has never accredited a 100% DL college in the past (I stand corrected). Walden had to leave FL to MN to pursue NCA accreditation. The owners of Walden knew that SACS would not grant accreditation to Walden. I believe that ColSouth will never be accredited by SACS, at least "in the foreseeable future" as Rich would say. And if that happens, I will team up with Ken but it will never happen, therefore Ken has no reason to gloat.

With Columbia Southern's past I don't think they can achieve RA by any accrediting body, especially SACS, who seems to enjoy holding to almost unreasonable standards.

For example, to teach psychology at the Junior College level you must have 18 hours in course prefixed with PSY......not in content but with the prefix......I have a PhD in Professional Counseling and was in classes with students studying "Human Behavior", "Social Psychology", etc. but my course prefix was HUS not PSY, therefore I am not qualified to teach psychology at the college level in any SACS schools......unreasonable standards!!!!

And furthermore, it is absolutely forbidden by regional accreditors' rules for any school to make any statement about when candidacy or accreditation is expected.

Perhaps someone with more time just now than I will call or eMail SACS to ask if that school has indeed applied, and report back.

It would be great if someone could check it out........I wouldn't want the disclosing CS affiliate to get in any hot water, but I certainly would like to know if they really did apply.........

I just got off the phone with SACS. They say Columbia Southern has not applied for accreditation. They maintain a list of applicants, who are placed on the list once an application is received. (In other words, it's not stuck in channels somewhere.)

Hmmm......that's interesting. I might phone the CS contact back and confront them with that information. Either it is a desperate ploy to recruit new students, a mixup of internal communication with Columbia Southern, or they are not quite at the stage they believe they are. Did someone say that Columbia Southern's owners read this forum? Maybe they can comment....:(

Sounds like typical sales tatics of the unaccredited schools. It is better to choose a reputable low cost school than a cheap one.

I just got off the phone with the disclosing CS affiliate. After I mentioned that SACS had been contacted, she checked with their Director of Development. Here is the CORRECTED story..... apparently Dr. Booth issued an internal email to announce their pursuing RA status after SACS supposedly changed their policy last December to allow for a distance-ed school to apply. They are currently in the process of application, but have not yet applied. Dr. Booth met with SACS last week to make sure they were on target, and apparently it went well. They expect to be able to apply summer of 2003, which would not make they able to have candidate status till 2004.

Any comments on this new info?

    Yes.

I just got off the phone with the disclosing spouse. After I mentioned that I had contacted the bank, she checked with the Florida Lottery Commission. Here is the CORRECTED story..... apparently she had written me a note stating that we had won the lottery after the Commission changed their policy last to allow for two drawings a week. In reality, she is currently in the process of buying a lottery ticket, but hasn’t done so yet. She contacted a telephone psychic (not Miss Cleo) last week to make sure we had the winning numbers, and apparently it went well. She expects to be able to actually buy the lottery ticket by the summer of 2003, which would mean we would not be able to achieve millionaire status till 2004.

She apologizes for the misunderstanding and all the premature spending… :D :D :D
