Well, I finally completed the requirements for my BA in Liberal Studies through Thomas Edison State College!!!

There had been a slight mix up, but yesterday I got an email from Learner Services saying the problem had been resolved and my file has been sent to the graduation coordinator. I will be a college graduate as of 15 may 2002!

After being repeatedly told I'd never be anything during my years in Chicago Public Schools (and believing it for so long), this accomplishment means that much more.

I slept very well last night knowing I'd be a little more marketable when I leave the military and a touch more promotable while i'm still in. It is something that just can't be taken away.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the usual suspects: Lawrie Millier, Rich Douglas, Mr Bear, Bruce, North, Levicoff and countless others on this board. I find myself quoting things I've read here to others who are looking at going the DL route. You all were a huge part of my accomplishment and I will never forget the friends I never saw.

    Thanks ever so much!

It is almost criminal, how many people are told things like this, and, sadly, accept it. One of the brightest men I ever met had been apprenticed to a barber (in England) at the age of 13, and 40 years later he was still a barber, and not a happy man.

Sincere congratulations on achieving something that 98% of the people on our planet never will.

    Congratulations!

I love it when people that have been posting here earn their DL degrees. It's kind of inspiring to all the rest of us.

    Congratulations

I also was told in high school by one of my teachers, in front of everyone, that I would be a freeway construction worker and nothing else.

Well, 27 years and a BS, JD, MBA and soon to have another MS and someday a Phd later I went to the school and proudly showed my teacher my accomplishments. ( He is a brother of St. Patrick and still teaches at my old school.)

He mellowed out a bit and 27 years later offerred a sincere apology.

It's great to have company, again, congratulations.

Very fine! There must be a lot of mad cow disease in the faculty there...Chicago being the slaughterhouse to the world and all.

    Congrats

    Congratulations.

I also graduated from Edison while I was in the military. It really helped me earn promotions. Since, I have gone on to get two residential Master's degrees. Edison awards a worthwhile degree.

    Good work.

Congratulations on your accomplishment! Never allow your self-worth to be determined by the opinions of others. Set your goals and pursue them with a passion.

    Live long and prosper!

    Congratulations!!!

I was told the same thing by the Los Angeles school system. Most of the very successful people I know today were told at some point in their early years they would be losers. Guess it's an odd and unintended way of motivating us. >:)
