Maybe... Dr Myrtle Hooper of Unizul mentioned to me that the University of Natal (Durban) had a program in creative writing. I am not sure if it goes all the way to doctorate or not. Here is the contact info where you can email and find out the whole program [email protected] The contact name is Michael Green. Good luck, clint
Edith Cowan University has a couple of PhD programs in creative writing, I believe. Here are a couple of excerpts from the following page: http://www.ecu.edu.au/prospectus/postgraduate/DoctoralAwards.html ENGLISH Doctor of Philosophy IS ML Contact: Dr Jill Durey. Having difficulty posting a long URL on this board. Here's a second try, in which I have split it into two lines and unchecked the "automoatically parse URLs" option: http://www.ecu.edu.au/prospectus/ postgraduate/DoctoralAwards.html
FYI, the first post was okay. The board shortens long URLs for the purposes of display, but if you click on it, it works. Hovering the mouse over it shows the whole URL at the bottom.
But don't worry Phillip, it took me awhile to figure out all this quoting, parsing and the like, as well. clint
Thanks to all for your responses. Does anyone know of a DL doctorate in Creative Writing offered by a school in the U.S.?
If I were looking specifically for a U.S. school in this area, I would probably end up going with the Union Institute; it has a very strong writerly history (Rita Mae Brown, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, et. al.) and the individualized program would let you specialize on the field of your choice. Obviously, cost and residency are factors there, which is why I ended up looking overseas. Cowan (mentioned earlier) is where I'm enrolled, but it's worth mentioning that they do generally require 10 days per year of face-to-face student-supervisor contact. Cheers,
I, too, recommend you explore The Union Institute and University, for the reasons I explained in the other thread. What you want to do has been done before; I've seen it first-hand.
