Hi, I've read several references to GRE subject exams for Political Science, History, etc. But they don't seem to be offered anymore. Are they gone permanently? Are any other exams likely to be discontinued soon? Will there be any notice if they decide to discontinue any other exams? Do they ever start offering new GRE exams? What is the best way to keep track of this stuff? (Exams being discontinued, new exams being offered, etc.) I might want to try my hand at one or two of the GRE subject exams, and I have friends who are also interested in completing their degrees who might as well. But since they are the most difficult I wanted to put it off for a while, but if that means I will miss my chance, maybe I should try them first. Thanks! Jacqueline
The 8 remaining exams are listed in this thread: http://www.degreeinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3231 It doesn't seem likely that new exams will be offered. It's essentially an issue of supply and demand, and it's hard to see any demand for additional exams from graduate admissions committees. The trend is clearly in the other direction.
To answer some of the other questions: The best way to track the availability of exams is through the GRE website at http://www.gre.org/pbstest.html In the past, they have given a year or so notice of exams that were to be dropped.
