Are Online Degrees Soon to be Outlawed?

Has anyone else read the papers this morning? I can't believe what I'm seeing. I've hacked together quotes from several news sources, "Due to concerns over abusive recruitment practices and questions about the quality of education offered by schools such as University of Phoenix, President Obama and staff have signed into law a bill that effectively outlaws distance education. Perhaps even more chilling, plans are being considered to revoke all current degrees that were earned via distance education."

I doubt that this actually fooled anyone, but happy April Fools Day anyway.

In related news, Marywood University's efforts to establish a distance internship program in dietetics have suffered a major setback, due to the takeover of their server room by squirrels.

However, India also lifted the ban in 2011.

This is great news. In 2009 I was researching Indira Ghandi Open U. Then it was only U$5000 for the PhD then the govt closed it down. Thank you for the updates.

My eyes went to the last sentence directly, so I didn't even get to read it before I had a chance to be fooled. If you kept the last sentence in the same paragraph, I wouldn't have noticed it so quickly, but I couldn't say for sure if it woukd have fooled me.

I doubt that an accross-the-board ban on DL would ever happen, but I don't doubt that some politian or another would try.

I assume you mean that the Government closed the distance PhD program(s) down. Wow! I thought for a minute you meant that IGNOU had been closed down! Just went to the site. IGNOU - The People's University seems to be operating normally and distance doctoral programs appear abundantly.

Here's a page with a few: IGNOU - School of Management Studies (SOMS) - Programmes - Distance - Doctor of Philosophy in Management (PhD (M))

There are plenty more in other disciplines, of course. Maybe it's time to fire up your browser and start your research anew!

The hidden and larger April Fool's joke is that you posted this and edited it 4 hours later. That's a huge April Fool's joke on the users that post here and you MUST think we didn't notice. :naughty::beerchug:

Oh yes, the joys and perks of being a moderator for Degree Info are huge. I think unlimited editing of posts is my favorite perk...well, aside from the six figure salary and, oh yes, the private jet. You MUST be very jealous of my exalted status.

Sorry Ted, I was talking about SufDoc, not Johaan. :biglaugh:

SurfDoc, You might get all of those benefits, but I just applied at MUST University and I'm certain it will pay off in the end. I just have this feeling. :smashfreakB:

OK. You didn't state who you were referring [sp?] to and your post came directly after Johann's.
