We've heard a lot about schools that require group projects and most of the feedback is bad. Many people don't like them. Of course, there are unhappy people everywhere and for every high achiever there's a slacker ready to drag them down. The slacker tends to like group projects. This seems to be more the case in the world of the student than in the real business world because, at least in my experience, there's more accountability in the business world. If something doesn't get done or if it gets done poorly, it's usually very clear who's responsible. In any case, here's an article about the 14 kinds of people you'll meet in a college group project.

Group projects have their pros and cons. It all depends on your group. Though I do detest the idea of my grade being dependent on someone else and my hardwork being the benefit for someone who did not do their part. I have had multiple group projects during my Masters with Troy (thank god I am in my last class) and only 1 was terrible. It is was bad in that it was a group of 3 and we had a research project that was to be between 35 and 45 pages. We each took a section. I turned mine into the group file exchange first then the second one came and we waited and waited, contacted the person several times to no avail. We ended up splitting the 3rd section in half and knocking it out ourselves. The 3rd person showed back up two days prior to the due date saying she had personal issues and a bad cold that kep her from being able to work on the paper. It didn't keep her from being able to do the 1600 word discussion board assignments but it kept her from even logging into the group DB and at least telling us she wouldn't be able to do her part. I don't think I would have had a problem with it if she had at least came out and said it. I understand being in a bad way. I had two back surgeries recently, one in august and one in december, so I get it life happens (though I finished all of my work even through these issues). We got a 92 on the paper and guess what, even though we did peer evaluations where we both annotated her lack of participation, she still got the same grade that we did. Pissed me off beyond belief but that is how the group system tends to work.

And after reading the link and rereading my post here perhaps I have that cracker of whips mentality haha. It was a funny one to look at.
