    Hello Experts.

I am looking for comprehensive list of online/distance accredited universities that are offering Ph.D (and not Doctorate) degrees in Business, Management, Engineering (Computer/Electrical/Systems/Industrial) fields, and costs less than $50K.

So far I came across a program in Mississippi State University and in Indiana State University. Anyone has other pointers ? Appreciate your replies !

    Thanks.

What is your goal for this degree? What do you want to do that you cannot now but believe you could with a PhD in one of these areas?

UAH has several PhD in engineering via DL
UAHuntsville - Engineering - Distance Learning - Programs & Courses
You would have to research the costs.

Also a university in one of the Dakotas offers a DSc in computer stuff as I recall (both the PhD and DSc are doctorate degrees).

Thank you folks - such a blessing to have these wonderful forums, and awesome people around.

Regarding the earlier question about, what are my goals for this degree and how will a PhD in one of these areas help:

I was born in States but raised in a developing world (similar story as B. Obama) I have been working in US as a Computer Science / Electrical Engineering professional for a number of years with a decent 6 figures salary, but I feel that now it's time for me to plan to migrate back and serve the country where I was raised - and join the government / politics to create substantial policies (using my experience and education) that would create a broader impact on 99% population which is living an impoverish, hopeless life in fear and dread.

And so I feel that a Ph.D. will give a credible endorsement to my academic record but it will also expand my horizon and vision. Also, a Ph.D. is necessary if one want to seek any substantial role in academics / bureaucracy / technocracy in those countries. Lastly, most of the projects via World Bank, U.N., or any other international agency require a Ph.D. to lead and secure the funding.

A credible U.S education is the single most valuable commodity, a paragon of excellence, that a person can take along with himself if leaving this great land (much better than the piles of cash, stocks-options or 401k's)

I know there are people who disagree but these are my 0.02 cents.

If you answer my question, the advice from people will get more useful.

Yes. Do your own research and share it, not the other way around.

As you are discovering, there is no comprehensive list such as you're requesting. Rich is suggesting that you might be the one to create such a list and this might benefit the board as well as present and future members. You will soon discover that creating such a list, cross referencing with costs and maintaining the list through time (as programs come and go and as costs change) is a task that no one is going to do. This is one of the reasons that we archive our threads, so that people can do their own searches and not need to reinvent the wheel. If you've looked around our site you've probably discovered that we already have multiple threads on doctoral degrees in business and so with just a little searching you can likely get all the answers to your questions in that area. As for the engineering doctoral degree, you've said nothing of your background and so I'd have to say that there's a good chance that you're not going to be seen as qualified to enter a doctoral program in all of the areas that you've listed. That list, after all, is pretty broad. In any case, here's another question. There are doctoral degrees in engineering but a lot of them are from schools outside the USA. Are you open to that possibility? 帮忙

Folks, I would like to get a Doctorate degree to academically learn about a new subject (preferably business, but IT/Engineering will work too), get some weight on my resume', and to open up the teaching options at the university level. Also, I plan to migrate in a few years from U.S. back to my home country (in the developing world) and over there, I would like to work and contribute on a national level, preferably with Government, Non-Profit, NGO's, IMF, World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP etc. - and all of such organizations value the resumes' with doctorate qualifications. I would like to pursue my doctoral studies online (since I am constantly traveling, and relocating as per the nature of my engineering profession).

So far the accredited online doctorate programs (in $15k - $50k range) that I have short listed, the ones accepting my U.S. accredited M.S. (Computer Science) degree, coupled with my professional engineering experience of 7+ years at a U.S. Fortune 100, and my standardized test (GRE) scores:

    1. Mississipi State University (ECE - Ph.D)
    2. Mississipi State University (Industrial and Systems Engineering - Ph.D)
    3. Dakota State University (D.Sc in Information Systems)
    4. Colorado State University (Systems Engineering - Ph.D) --> comes with a weird condition that a person need to 'secure' a thesis/dissertation advisor ahead of the application process.

Please let me know if anyone has any pointed in other accredited online U.S. Ph.D/Doctorate degrees in Business / Engineering.

    Thanks.

That's not weird. You really should be doing before applying to any PhD program.

Interesting, although I don't think of distance learning as "not going to college". :)

This is how the way it works for Ph.D degree; if you are making a 6-figure income, then you need to spend more than $40,000.00 for a Ph.D degree. If you attend full-time Ph.D on campus, you'll get tuition waved and stipend by teaching or researching for the institution. So, if you compare to a person would sacrifice for a 6-figure income to complete a Ph.D on campus for 3 to 6 years; then that Ph.D is not cheap. This is the reason why most of colleges and universities take the advantage of professionals by offering Doctorate degree with no or limited residency with a higher price.

Also DePaul University offers Ph.D in Computer and Information Science with limited residency; if I am not mistaken, you have to do several semesters on campus.

The University of Rhode Island offers Ph.D in Computer Science - Cyber Security; most of Cyber Security courses can be completed via online.

Northcentral University offers plenty Ph.D in Business Administration with Engineering; it seems to be perfect for you as they are blending between two different worlds (business and engineering).
