I am trying to help my wife find an online masters program. She is a very busy person, and wants to do it 100% online (she will probably cheat and do some of it at work heh).
The program is for professional development only, not academic purposes. She does not deal with a large amount of accounting, marketing, or finance. Mainly with general management, and HRM.

here is what she wants (forgive the huge list)...

    - something online from a state university extension system
    - 100% online, including testing, no proctoring by appointment
    - 8 week accelerated courses or less (similar to private online universities)
    - 30k or less total
    - regionally accredited, in US
    - in general management, HRM, humanities, or liberal studies
    - not interested in any MBA programs

Thanks in advance, and please no posts asking to change her philosophy

Take a look at Chadron State College. The Master of Science in Organizational Management appears to be what she's looking for, especially with the Human Services focus Master of Science in Organizational Management - Graduate Studies - Chadron State College. I'm not sure about the proctor issue, but at less than $9600 all in you can't beat it.

She might also want to look at Bellevue University. It's a private school, not state, but it's a nonprofit with a solid reputation. There are no proctors, 12 week classes, and they offer a very interesting Master of Science in Management for $18,000. I'm finishing up a Master of Science in Organizational Performance with them now and am giving serious consideration to the MS Management before doing a PhD elsewhere.

Not a state university but it is a private - non-profit-
Welcome to Amberton University, a private institution that offers a variety of bachelor's and master's programs -- specializing in Business Administration, Counseling, Human Resources & Training, Human Relations & Business, and Project Management. Our flexible schedule of lecture and online courses is uniquely suited for working adults. Amberton University is recognized as one of the most respected, innovative, and affordable universities in the nation.

I have always liked the look of the Master of Arts / Professional Development
    Amberton University - Distance Learning

Here is another option that is a state school - Degrees/Certificates - Fort Hays State University

and i would simply suggest that your wife spend a few hours casting around our website. we have multiple threads on all these options and she might learn of some slightly off-beat options that might not come up in a new inquiry. in any case, best of luck.

I have always loved the flexibility of the MA Professional Development degree. It has two required courses. You select the "electives" for the remaining 10 to form your own major and concentration(s). I believe their courses are offered in 10 week terms and do not not require proctors. They are also really inexpensive at $705 per class ($8460 for the degree).

She relented a bit, and will not require a state university, nearly all of them require proctors, a real pain because we had to drive out of town for this on our undergraduate degrees.

    She is down to these...

    Capella University / Private / For-profit / Master of Leadership / 30k
    University of Phoenix / Private / For-profit / Master of Management / 25k
    Liberty University / Private / Not-for-profit / Master of Management and Leadership / 15k

She is leaning more towards Liberty because it is a not-for-profit and its cheaper. Its also in the US News rankings (not high) but phoenix and Capella are not even ranked.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

Liberty doesn't look to bad. You couldn't pay me $30K to go to UofP (well, ok, I would go if you paid me and I had no other choice...but I wouldn't under any circumstance pay to go there).

AMU/APU is building a name for itself, the costs aren't too high. and they have an MA in Management among others.

Of those three, if she's Christian, then I say Liberty. Otherwise, I say Capella.

I know you said no proctored testing but she may need to give a little if she wants everything else. Troy University has an MSHRM (Masters of Science in Human Resources Management) that can be completed 100% online in under a year if core business courses are waived (basically she will need a business related bachelors degree from an ACBSP accredited school) and has no thesis requirement. The school requires the GRE for entry and there is one proctored exam per course which can be completed using ProctorU (minus the capstone course which will require an actual testing center). The terms are 9 weeks each and they run 5 terms per academic calendar year. She can start in any term. It is a state school, non-profit, regionally accredited and has ACBSP accreditation.

here is the link you will have to scroll down as it is 7th on their list TROY - eTROY - Master's Degree Programs

For a respected degree that will have some utility for her she may have to concede some of her requirements. But that is just my opinion.

For what it is worth, I would stay away from UoP. The reputation and stigma is just not worth it, especially given the price tag. Capella has a better rep than UoP, but I think she would be far better off going to a nonprofit. Liberty is a solid choice. I would again submit Chadron, Bellevue, and especially Amberton.

I agree, if those are really the only finalists. Don't get me wrong, I really like Liberty a lot. I actually enrolled in the Management and Leadership program before switching over to Bellevue. It just seems like an odd list of finalists, especially with UoP and Capella on it.

Thanks Pug, we looked into Chadron. While proctoring is not the standard, the advisers told us some instructors call for it. But, there is an oral assessment, and oh my wife would mess that up! She gets nervous and loses intelligence real fast when being tested. but yes Chadron was the #1 choice there for a while.

This is arrogant. If posters wish to post suggested alterations or alternatives, who are you to tell them not to do so?

Good luck in asking someone else to help you with someone else's search. I'm sure you'll receive good information anyway.

Liberty is 8wks, no proctor, and inexpensive. I am a nonchristian Canadian completing a master degree in accounting from liberty. Truly I like the values focus of courses. We need more values focused programs.

    Why is that?

We do not need less values focused programs. SOX was a response to a breakdown in corporate values. The housing melt down; the actions of investment banks betting again their investors are some examples of weak values. Some researchers have also blame MBAs from high profile schools. In a response many schools are incorporating business ethics as part of the curriculum.

Ah, so by "values" you meant "business ethics" and "corporate values." Who could argue against that?

Also professional values needed more so than personal values. Although I do somewhat subscribed to Aristotle’s personal virtues; because one has to have personal virtues to recognized unethical situation. I do recommended Liberty but not Christianity per se.
