I have read through these boards a lot and having trouble getting a consensus on the best distance learning DBA. In a nut shell I am not overly worried about the costs. I have my MBA from a very good school (T1) with a 3.93 GPA - not that it really means all that much!

Anyway, I am looking for the best option for a DBA. I will have to get financial aid and preferably need a limited number of residencies. Grand Canyon is sticking out to me right now. Only 2 residencies which you are given a bunch of options and they are the a brick and mortar school. Downside is they are not AACSB nor have they ha a graduating class now. I want to stay away from the generic online only schools like walden, phoenix, capella etc. I am also not looking to teach.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

Another option is The Wilmington University DBA. It currently requires a few visits to the campus but will also have an online option in the near future...

Thanks. No thoughts on Grand Canyon?
I spoke with Liverpool and you cannot get financial aid through them.

Not that I'm recommending them, but just for the sake of accuracy, Phoenix is not an online only school.

What's your goal, then? What do you want to do that you currently cannot, but would be able to do if you had a DBA?

They have a pretty good reputation for a for-profit. Also, they're Christian -- if that's a plus for you, then great, but if not, then take it into consideration. (If it is a plus, then you may also want to look at Regent University, which offers a PhD in Organizational Leadership and a Doctor of Strategic Leadership by distance.)

You might also consider the Doctor of Management program from University of Maryland University College, or the DBA from Baker College. (Although of all the ones that have been mentioned so far, I like Wilmington University the best.)

Thanks for the feedback. I am looking into Wilmington. In fact I am about to email them. As for why I am pursuing - just for advancement down the line.

I am not stuck on a DBA - open to other Doctorates in the business field.

    Thanks again.

I think Wilmington University DBA is considering the most minimal cost out of all available in except of NA accredited schools.

    Mark,

I know you said that you don't want to teach and that you want to stay away from the "all online" schools...but that being said, I have a PhD from Capella, and my degree has served me very well. Before you dismiss Capella, give them a look.

I'll also chime in that Wilmington U is worth a look also :)

According to the Nova Southeastern University webpage, FAQ section, the DBA is not offered online.

If you are truly open to other doctorates in the business field, Johnson University offers a PhD in Leadership Studies with a Business Track option. It's a Christian University, so you'll need to decide if that is a plus or minus for you. I don't think you will find a less expensive regionally accredited doctorate.

This is one of the PhD programs I am considering at the moment.

There are two considerations here regarding religious affiliation. First, if the degree program itself has religious orientation. If so, it would really help if one was (a) open to that and (b) adherent to that belief system.

The second consideration is the religious affiliation of the school and whether or not that will matter to employers. Largely, no. They won't know, and if they do, they'll assume it's irrelevant (like it is at most religiously affiliated schools like Notre Dame and SMU). But if we're talking about a Liberty or a Regent, it might come up. Maybe, but even then not very likely.

Right now I am actually interested in Tenessee Temple. One residency, low cost, B&M school. Hampton is out, cannot do a 4 week residency - not sure what working professional could to be honest, may as well go back to school full time.

Johnson looks possible but I am not strongly religious and this scares me a little:

Articulate biblical, theological, philosophical, and ethical foundations for leadership.
Exercise effective leadership in higher education and other organizations within their cultural contexts.
Demonstrate Christian character in exercising leadership.
Conduct high quality research and make original contributions to the field.

I do like them being RA and also 100% online though.
