Ok, so I'm looking to obtain a doctorate degree in management or business admin. I would prefer it to specialize in Information Systems. The following degree's description is right in line with what I am looking for:

Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership/Information Systems and Technology - University of Phoenix

However, University of Phoenix is not AACSB accredited. The following EU schools in the UK offer online Doctor of Business Administration programs, and they are AACSB accredited:

    Manchester Business school
    Liverpool University

    These are general DBA degrees.

I'm just looking for advice, and possibly any personal experience someone has had with any of these schools. I am currently at a good company, and am looking to use my education to further advance my career here, and possibly elsewhere. Thank you for your comments!

I would think long and hard before pursuing a UofP degree of any sort. They are the poster child of the evil for profits (im not saying for profit is bad, just have issues with the way UofP conducts business). Find some other RA school to attend.

Another option is Grenoble Ecole De Management in France. They offer an English Language program for a DBA. While I do not know if information systems is a specific concentration they offer, they do offer a Technology Management concentration that might work for you. Grenoble is AACSB accredited.

Their format is based on a 6 day workshop in France, followed by 5 3-day weekend workshops in the US, culminating with a final 3 day weekend workshop in France. This takes place over a period of 2 years.

I agree. Perception is everything, and UoP is widely perceived to be a joke. I'm not offering commentary on the school's quality, just it's image.

I like the UK options. However, other American options include the Doctor of Management from University of Maryland University College, the Doctor of Business Administraton from Baker College, and the Doctor of Business Administraton from Wilmington University (to be offered entirely online starting Fall 2013).

There quite a few PhD or D.Sc in the US in Information Systems in DL format. Few include Nova, Dakota State, NorthCentral, Walden and Capella.

IS not the type of field that requires always AACSB accreditation as many programs are offered by Computer Science or Engineering departments.

The general DBA options from European are good options but not something that would prepare you for an IS career in teaching or industry.

My favorite option is Nova as it has many graduates working in Academia and Industry.

It depends on your last credential. If the prospect student has a Masters degree from a good school with good recognition, it wouldn't be the best option to ruin it with a terminal degree from the UoP. However, if the student already has a Master's from a for profit school, it might not be so easy to get admission to a better school so perhaps the UoP might be the only option available.

Will there be any residencies required for their program?

Steve did some (awesome, above and beyond) legwork, and has more about the program on this thread: Wilmington University DBA.

Thanks! Grenoble is exactly the type of program I'm looking for. Does anyone have experience with this specific program?

Also, how difficult is it to get into a "high profile" school like Grenoble? Not that I don't think I will be accepted, lol

This is exactly what I was looking for. Does anyone have experience with this school? Particularly with the distance learning program?

After some research, I will be applying to Grenoble. While not the cheapest of schools, their program looks top notch. They have a partner in CA, USA. This means I won't have to travel to France for their short weekend residencies. There may be 2 trips total where international travel is required.

Their application process is somewhat different from many schools, as they require a Request for Proposal before you are even admitted! The request itself could potentially be longer than any paper many have written. However, they will allow you to submit drafts of the proposal before a final submission is taken to the Board.

    Thanks for all the help!

That's not different, actually, it's the standard for research-based degree programs such as one typically finds everywhere outside North America. Anyway, good luck!

I applied to Grenoble a couple of years ago but backed out due to family obligations. It’s true they require a 10-15 page research proposal before admittance.

I found out from degreeinfo that University of Liverpool is offering an AACSB accredited 100% distance DBA.

I was going to apply back at Grenoble this year but realized that with approx. 6 visits to the USA school and 2 trips to France, University of Liverpool would be a lot less expensive then Grenoble. Also, I run the risk of my employer not approving the trips. Additionally, I have small children who would find it very difficult if I was gone. If I was single or my children were older, the residencies would be a lot easier. Furthermore, with University of Liverpool, I could start now instead of waiting till November.
University of Liverpool is part of the Russell Group, AACSB accredited, and have an on ground University that has been in existence since the late 1800s. The DBA program has 9 modules that can all be completed online; however, 2 of them have a residency option. So if you want to do the residency two of them can be done at the University of Liverpool. You can actually complete the module quicker by doing the short residency for it. I just applied at University of Liverpool in January and my first class starts February 7. So far I have been impressed with their quick responses, and their training module, which covers how to use their online system and tips on how to plan your study every week.

Also, keep in mind (in the USA) that you can get a $2,000.00 per year lifelong learning tax credit and if your state has a 529 plan you can get a deduction for that. For me it comes to approx. $2,300.00 per year in savings on the tuition.

By the way I looked into University of Surrey, which was less expensive and they are not taking students for their DBA program at this time.

Email me at [email protected], if you want more information about the University of Liverpool.

Thanks for the information! I will definitely be looking into the tax credit.

One requirement for me (although, in the long run, it probably doesn't matter), was to attend a school that had a Tech focus. Grenoble seemed to satisfy that. I have also been in contact with Liverpool, and they seem like a solid option!

To help some of the others looking for an AACSB accredited online DBA, your real options are only outside of the U.S. Here are a few more schools that fit these guidelines:

Manchester Business School (The contacts for all your DBA enquiries | MBS)
    Aston (Contact us)
Liverpool (Online Learning Overview | University of Liverpool)
Henley (Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) - Henley - DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) - University of Reading)
Grenoble (DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) - Grenoble Ecole de Management)
