I read about it on Thomas Edison's website, but I still have a question or two. The first is because I didn't see it, what is the cost, is it per exam? And the big question I have is when you register for TECEP and choose a course do they suggest a text book to study before the test? Thanks for the help again.

TECEPs are $33 per credit attempted (x 3 = $99 for almost all titles). This is prepaid to TESC. Additionally, your testing center, like a public library, may charge their own fee to administer the test.

For each TECEP, TESC publishes an extremely helpful PDF file with a recommended text or texts, and representative sample questions. You can reach the PDF file through the "View Test Description" link on main page for each test title, through the TECEP directory here. You can see these right now. Good luck! :)

Thanks Jonathan Whatley, I actually found that this morning. I may take English comp. 1&2 with TECEP. I saw the recommended study material. Is English comp. in general a hard subject to learn, hard to test for? 33 bucks is just an insane price, cheap wise I mean.

It's very difficult to give a general answer! You might practice with some sample questions, prompts, for short essays. Sit down and within a time limit for each trial, WITHOUT the Internet or any external reference – besides a writing handbook and a spelling aid, which the TECEP allows – write responses in the form of basic college essays. Then compare your work with sample student essays you can find on the websites of college writing centers, or in college writing handbooks.

    Hi pfelectronicstech,

I used to teach at TESC (retired now). The English Comp TECEP is all essay - you will be given 2 hrs. The set up is basically you will write two essays and will be given different prompts to answer with specific reading material for each prompt. If you are near a University, you can request a full-time professor to be your proctor, or utilize the testing center there or at the library as already mentioned. For this, there really isn't any study material, you will just need to learn how to structure your essays - Beginning, Middle, End with topic sentence, abstract and concrete sentences along transitional sentences.
