I have an AS in accounting with a total of 86 credit hours from a community college. I have been working as an Accountant for the past 15 years. I need to enroll in a bs or ba accounting program, so my employer will consider me for a promotion in the next year. Any suggestions?
Excelsior College offer a BS in Accounting (general), and a BS in Accounting NYS CPA track. Don't know what certifications you might have accrued over the last 15 years, but it may be that any relevant paper could be converted to college credit hours. Aside from your AA, other possible sources include new examination credit, portfolio credit, and traditional course credit. Other assessment colleges that might fit the bill are Charter Oak State College (COSC), and Thomas Edison State College (TESC). Note though, that of the three, only Excelsior offers the degree with a major in Accounting (the degree transcript and diploma both say, "Bachelor of Science in Accounting"). Re: Re: need a bs or ba in accounting The Distance Learning Business Degrees Web site lists almost 200 Bachelor degree programs in Business, including links and tuition information on 17 distance learning programs (with no residency requirements) that have a specific major in Accounting.
Just a tip... Where ever you go and whatever degree you do, MAKE SURE that it meets the current and next review requirements for the CPA, whether you want you CPA now or not. I deal with a lot of people who are 'locked out' because they didn't consider the '150 hours requirement' or a possible future change in employment, lifestyle, location. I know that Excelsior offers a CPA track degree, and something you might wish to look into is that LSU offers quite a few accounting courses via correspondence. -Cory
