Excelsior College's DistanceLearn(SM) database of distance learning courses is newly available to the public at http://distancelearn.excelsior.edu. This is the largest and, we believe, most accurate and useful collection of courses which are available to the general public at a distance. It also includes a link to each participating school's Web site, and contact information for that school. Schools are not charged to have their courses listed in Distancelearn.

Note that only regionally accredited schools are included, together with a few foreign schools such as Athabasca. Also, courses must be offered to anyone, not just to (say) residents of a particular state. All data is reviewed quarterly for accuracy.

You can search by school, subject area, keyword, mode of delivery, course level, and cost. Note that it is out-of-state tuition that is included, for those schools with differing tuition rates.

Try it out! For queries or comments about Distancelearn(SM), write to [email protected]. For information about the degree programs of Excelsior College, America's First Virtual University, visit our main Web site at http://www.excelsior.edu.

  2. I've used Excelsior's DistanceLearn database frequently, and found it to be the simplest to use with the most useful results of any of the course databases available online.

Just one suggestion at the moment -- there's an option to select institution(s) when searching, and if you don't select one or more institutions or the "all" option, you get an error message. I'd make "all" selected by default.
