  1. Azaliah College of South Africa has been mentioned on this board in several threads (some of which are listed below). The institution has claimed to be registered by the South African Department of Education, though I have been curious as to why it is not in the list of Registered Private Higher Education Institutions. So I was interested to see their website at http://www.azaliah.co.za/ which now states:
    • Due to the uncertainty that the South African Higher Education sector is experiencing this website has been discontinued.
Is it possible that all that will remain of Azaliah College is the New Mexico branch that was formerly Eastern American University?

I wonder if this is going to be an epidemic among the South African Universities? It was discussed previously in

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4234

that Zululand's site was down. It still is. I had been talking with some people from Unizul about an MA in English, but since their site is down, no email gets through to them and they haven't sent me one, either.

Not trying to change the subject from Azaliah, but thought it might be related in some way.
    my thoughts anyway,

I have noticed Techikon SA is still in existance. They have a 2002 calender out. What happened to the merger?

The Potchefstroom University site remains open at www.puk.ac.za .

  5. Well, bear in mind that Azaliah is/was not a South African University. The fate of Azaliah is not relevant to the viability and future of the public universities. IMHO.

  6. In the first message of this thread, I noted that the South African web site (http://www.azaliah.co.za/) of Azaliah College (founded in South Africa a decade ago) is no longer available. Comes now this story from the Mail & Guardian, a South African newspaper: Do you have it?
The relevant paragraph is as follows:
    • Azaliah is a United States-based global correspondence university. According to the partnership recently concluded between CTI and Azaliah, CTI students will be accredited by Azaliah using the US credit-hour system. This means that CTI students will be able to continue their studies with Azaliah and CTI - completing a BSc in computer science (correspondence) through CTI, with the option of attending graduating ceremonies in South Africa or the US. The American credit-hour system is universal, which means that CTI/Azaliah accreditations will be recognised by the majority of American universities.
I find it very interesting that now a South African newspaper is calling Azaliah a "United States-based global correspondence university." So perhaps Azaliah is now no more than what was formerly Eastern American.
