I'm hoping--fingers crossed--that someone in here know of any online MA/MS in Latin American Studies program(s). The program must be RA, reasonably priced (15K-40K range, company paying bill), completely online, although a hybrid program would work as well. I'm researching this for my brother. However, I have yet to find any, I looked at old threads here and could not find any.:banghead: Thank you all!!!! :fing02:
Would the individualized M.A. programs through Goddard, Union, and Lesley work? MA in Individualized Studies | Goddard College Master of Arts | Master's of Arts - Accredited Online Degree - Adult Distance Learning - Low Residency Degree Self-Designed Master's Program - Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences
These are all awesome suggestions. Prescott College in AZ also has one that might be a good fit for the subject. The University of Illinois Springfield has one that's a good option all around. The M.A. in Humanities from California State University, Dominguez Hills, while not really Latin Americanish in its prewritten courses, is friendly to independent study courses and has several faculty with backgrounds and interests in Latin American studies. Finally, here's something different: A cohort-based M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration & Leadership with a program-wide "Focus on Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) acknowledging cultural needs and learning style differences." It's from Adams State University in CO. There's a mandatory two day residency.
Correction to myself above: That's an M.A. in Higher Education Administration & Leadership from Adams State, not an M.Ed.
Awesome! thank you both. I will pass this information along, I really like Goddard and Prescott College.
Ask your brother to look at this Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures | Virginia Tech Graduate Schools Please note that the second link is not a list of DL programs. It is a list of grad programs in Latin American studies that may or may not have DL components. Good luck
Thank you Kizmet for both links, VA Tech is a great school. Definitely worth considering. :scratchchin:
If your friend can't find any online humanities programs with a good number of Latin American courses, he or she might want to look into international relations, national security, and political science programs with regional studies/affairs concentrations. Troy has an International Relations program with a Regional Affairs concentration. You can fill the concentration with just Latin American courses. TROY - Graduate Catalog/College of Arts and Sciences
I would suggest trying an online degree in Humanities/Interdisciplinary Studies and/or History that has several courses that focus on Latin America. WNMU comes to mind, as their online history courses have a significant focus on Latin America, along with coursework in political science that focuses on the same area. They even offer some graduate Spanish and Latin American literature and pedagogy courses online as well. Also Sam Houston State offers an online history degree with a significant Latin American focus. Good luck!
