I've been away for a while, so I'm a little behind on the latest and best. My 17 year old son is considering taking off the next semester of High School and doing some college courses. I noticed that Clovis has the classes available that he is looking for on the cheap. It appears that the cost would be somewhere in the $900 range for out of state tuition. Enrollment seems easy and hassle free for transient students. He is looking at the following courses: Anatomy & Physiology I + Lab Algebra I English Comp. I Does anyone have any other suggestions for places to go?
Not lower in tuition; but additional options ... I'm not sure what courses they have now, but the University of Idaho Independent Study is really cheap at around $325 for 3 credits.
New Mexico Junior College. Tuition and Fees - New Mexico Junior College Have you looked into community colleges in your district or state? I could attend my local community colleges online for less than Clovis and NMJC.
New Mexico junior drops to less than $100 a credit total at about 12 credits. Credits beyond that (13-24 credits/semester ) are even cheaper...like $45/credit. They offer 8 or 16 week terms, so more than 12 can be very doable. University of Arkansas is inexpensive like U of Idaho at around $300/3 credits, they don't ask questions either...his hs status won't be an issue.
If he's still in high school, why not check into dual enrollment classes, like those offered by Liberty Academy (college credit awarded through Liberty University). They offer around 30 dual enrollment classes... Dual Enrollment Program | Liberty Online Academy
My son goes to a private school with a tuition cost of $575 per month. The advantage of him taking off of school until next fall is that he can do it at a lower cost and they will accept his college courses as completed high school courses when he comes back in the fall. Paying for both at the same time will not giv us a real advantage. Liberty's courses are $500 each, which is about the same.
That sounds great. I wish I could have done that in high school. I'd rather have not gone to high school and just gone to community college courses instead. I hope he does well. You might want to see if Straighterline/Thomas Edison works. Thats online and very inexpensive.
If it weren't for football we would probably just skip the last few years and get to community college.
