Online masters in Sociology??? Does it exist???

I'm looking for a fully online, RA masters in Sociology. I would like it to be from a well known school, if possible, but at this point I'll take almost anything since I can't find anything.

I plan to do 2 masters. One in Communications or Public Relations and one in Sociology. They make me happy, they will help me with the job(s) I am interested in, and because I want to. lol

Anyway, I can't find one!! It's driving me crazy!!! Anyone know of any?? I looked in past threads but the links to the NMSU one didn't work and I couldn't find it online. Help!!

 

Ok so after looking through 22 pages on google, I found 3. Just 3. Is that really all there is??? Anyway, here they are:

So, out of these 3 programs, which do you all recommend based on name recognition, quality of the program, most interesting course selections, and reputation of the school?

 

Have you considered the Master of Arts Interdisciplinary studies at Western New Mexico U? Far from the best known school on the planet, but its reputable and you could blend up to three of your interests into a Masters. Virtual Campus - Online Programs I think Psych/Poly Sci was just made for you.


....and it's really cheap too! (if you go part time anyway)

 

And their concentration in Writing might fit an interest in communication.

 

I'd check with WKU as to whether their M.A. in Sociology is currently available entirely online. It isn't on the list of Online Master's Programs here. An M.A. in Criminology, from the Sociology department, is listed. There are also a few Graduate Certificates with nexuses to sociology (including Aging Studies, Gender & Women's Studies, Leadership Studies. Hey, there's a grad cert in International Student Services if you're still interested in student services, but maybe for less than a degree. Here's how WKU nestles grad certs into many master's programs.

Comparing graduate programs in sociology, I would look closely at the course offerings and faculty in each. Which of each seem to line up with your interests? I'm not just tossing off this answer; I have some familiarity with the field. After a career change, my Mom is an assistant professor or sociology. The field is expansive, and strengths in specific topics of inquiry, theoretical or methodological approaches, etc., within it counts for a lot.

 

WOW. I don't know how I missed that. Why on earth did I think WKU's program was online? There must have been a reason, but I don't remember and I can't find anything about it. *sigh* I really should stop looking up programs when I'm tired.

 

So, out of these 2 programs now (WKU isnt online), which do you all recommend based on name recognition, quality of the program, most interesting course selections, and reputation of the school? I really don't know anything about SHSU or NMSU. So I really need some input here on them. Thanks!!

 

So I decided to go with the NMSU online masters in Sociology degree. Here's why. I couldn't find much online about SHSU, but I found plenty about NMSU. I checked reviews, rankings (I don't care what anyone says, they matter to me!!) and found that SHSU is not even ranked whereas NMSU is actually a tier 1 university (#189). Also, I'm super happy that NMSU doesn't require the GRE!!! Yay!!! lol

Sam Houston State will be playing North Dakota State for NCAA DIVISION I FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP on Jan. 5th in Frisco, TX. The same two teams played last year ... with NDSU winning that one. :sigh1:

Sam Houston State University is not nationally ranked as an institution, but it has one of the best criminal justice programs in the country. It is known nationally in that arena. It also has the #22 Criminology program. However, I think US News uses criminology as a blanket term that includes criminal justice. Criminology is a subfield of sociology while criminal justice is more of an interdisciplinary subject that includes law, law enforcement, social work, the behavioral sciences, and sometimes forensic science.
