I have been giving quite a bit of thought to the MA program at Touro ....Does anyone have any experience with them? The total cost of the program is 18k. I also stumbled upon a program at the University of Central Missouri....a Master of Science in Industrial Managememt...no gre...right at 13k for the entire online program.

Touro? Or Trident? I have a colleague who did an MBA there (Trident, when it was still TUI). He was pleased.

All other things being equal, a degree from CMU will raise fewer issues than one from Trident. But things are never "all equal."

Tuoro, Trident, TUI.... did you intend for that to be a Who's on First moment?

First, there was Touro College. Then, they created Touro University International to be their distance learning arm. Then, Touro University International got sold and renamed TUI University. Then, they changed their name to Trident University International (an even stupider name than TUI University, IMHO). Then, Touro College created a new distance learning arm called Touro University Worldwide.

I'm getting a headache with all of the different names. So, Touro created TUW after they sold TUI, which is now independent!

The quality of this program may be decent, but I would avoid Touro, TUI, Trident, TUW, Whatever - just for the fact that they cannot seem to get their identify established.

TUW is starting a PsyD program in IO psychology, too. I just inquired with them and they sent me a .pdf of the online doctorate degree and it's requirements. It seems quite interesting and program runs around $46K for the three year program. But as many have said, the name has been confusing for many.

Touro created Touro University International in 1999 or so and sold it off in 2007. That sold off unit became TUI/Trident. The TUW is the "new" Touro University International and might get sold off also...who knows. Oddly, Touro offers online degrees also right from Touro. Touro is a strong school in NY/NJ (I grew up there) with med school and a law school but the stuff they pulled with TUI makes me stay away.

    Agreed.

I wouldn't make a significant investment in a school that is that unstable.

Actually, Touro is quite stable but the online division(s) is what seems "off". TUI/Trident is a completely different school.

Actually that isn't quite correct either.

It's true that Touro University Worldwide is independent from the original Touro College (which is a B&M school in New York). However, Touro University Worldwide (which is a DL school in southern California) is affiliated with Touro College Los Angeles (which is a B&M school in southern California). Touro University Worldwide and Touro College Los Angeles share joint accreditation with WASC. The original Touro College (in New York) is accredited separately by MSCHE.

Trident University International (which descended from Touro University International) is also based in southern California. However, it is accredited separately by WASC, and no longer has any affiliation with any Touro entity.

It should also be noted that Touro College Worldwide and Touro College Los Angeles (both in southern California) are different from "Touro University California" (which is in northern California). Touro University California also offers B&M and DL programs, but it is accredited separately by WASC; it does not share the same accreditation as Touro College Los Angeles/Touro University Worldwide. On the other hand, Touro University California does share WASC accreditation with Touro University Nevada.

You have to keep these simple points in mind when discussing Touro institutions, or else there could be some possibility for confusion.

But remember, Touro University International, which people called TUI is not the same as TUI University which is what the new name was after Touro sold Touro University International and later named Trident. Got it...clear as mud?

Touro University opens a online campus called Touro University International and it is nicknamed TUI for short
Touro University sells Touro University International to Summit Investors and it is renamed TUI University - TUI is latin for "everyone" or something like that. They also wanted to preserve the TUI name like it meant something special
TUI University was renamed Trident University International because TUI University was not stupid enough.

Really? Nevada is not in WASC territory.

For accreditation purposes, Touro University Nevada (located in Henderson, Nevada) is currently classified as a branch campus of Touro University California (located in Vallejo, California). Since the main campus is headquartered in WASC territory, Touro University Nevada is currently handled by WASC. That's why there is a Touro University Nevada page at the WASC website.

If Touro University Nevada ever pursues independent accreditation, it will presumably have to do so through NWCCU, rather than WASC.

In the same way, Touro College South (located in Miami Beach, Florida) is currently classified as a branch campus of Touro College (located in New York City). So Touro College South is currently accredited by MSCHE rather than SACS, even though Miami Beach is obviously nowhere near MSCHE territory.

    Please note the following:
    1. Touro University International was a Branch Campus of Touro College (NY). The “ASSETS” of Touro University International were sold – NOT the University.
    2. Trident University International (formerly TUI University) is NOT a continuation or name change of Touro University International.
    3. Touro University International ceased to exist/operate after November, 2007.
    4. Trident was apparently seeking to gain from the reputation of Touro College, by apparently claiming that Trident is simply a name change of Touro University International. Thankfully, the relevant authorities intervened, and now Trident MUST cease and desist from making such claims.
    5. As in any “teach out” arrangement/agreement, students of Touro University International, who continued their studies at Trident University International (formerly TUI University), were/are allowed to graduate with a degree from Touro University International (Branch Campus of Touro College). Also, the MSCHE (The Middle States Commission on Higher Education) has updated its records to correctly reflect all degrees (including the “Doctor's - Research/Scholarship” that is, the PhD) that have been, and can be offered by Touro College and its Branch Campuses.
    6. Trident University International (formerly TUI University) apparently misled students and graduates of Touro University International (Branch Campus of Touro College) into believing that their academic records had to be maintained and issued by Trident University International. Again, THANKFULLY, the relevant authorities intervened, and now graduates of Touro University International (Branch Campus of Touro College, NY) can obtain their academic transcripts, diplomas and other records, directly from the Office of the Registrar, Touro College, New York.
    7. Also, verification that you are a graduate of Touro University International can be obtained via the National Student Clearinghourse by indicating your School as “Touro College”.

    Po-ta-to, po-tah-to.

The possible exception: graduating from Touro University International while it was still operated by Touro College and claiming your pedigree with Touro College. "Possible" because I don't know if that was kosher. (Yes, pun intended.)
