Basically, a small commercial publisher called Flat World Knowledge was making their textbooks available under a license that allowed copying, but then they removed the free versions from their site. The Saylor Foundation stepped in and repackaged them so they wouldn't be lost to those who could use the free versions, and they plan to format them more professionally in the new year.
