  1. Some may remember Darton University -- it briefly appeared and quickly disappeared in January 2001.

    Well, it's ba-a-ack. See http://www.darton.org/

Keen eyes may notice a failure to edit thoroughly.

The Truth Regarding Accreditation in the United States

U.S. Accreditation is a unique and private non-governmental function, and it is an entirely voluntary process. Each degree-granting educational institution primarily located in the United States must decide for itself whether U.S. Accreditation is appropriate and necessary for its educational mission.

Accreditation is not a legal requirement!

The U.S. Federal Government uses accreditation as a mechanism to distribute the government's educational funds, and physical residence and attendance by students is required before an educational institution can be considered eligible for accreditation.

    I like the following line:

We’re breaking ground and setting new standards!

I think that to be acurate, they should edit the statement to read:

"We've dug up the corpse and resurrected the dead."

Isn't it interesting that most of the unaccredited schools use this line? The first part is accurate. The second, refering to "residence" as a requirement "before an educational institution can be considered eligible for accreditation" is totally bogus.

Clearly, this is meant to play on ignorance of non-US learners who live in countries where accreditation is unlike what exists in the US. It also plays on the ignorance or naivete of US students who may be looking for quick degrees.

We really need to get the word out: Unaccredited degrees have little and sometimes no utility in the US.

I disagree with your supposition that un-accredited degrees "have little and sometimes no utility" value. As a matter of fact, it has many uses...

    Darton?
    Aaron?

Most universities, accredited and unaccredited, have at least decided what their name is.

"What college do you go to?"

"I, uh...I think its like, uh, Arnold or Darby or something...they're going to decide next week. But its really good."
