It looks like there's a good chance many of them will be ACE evaluated for college credit as long as students take (and pass) a final proctored exam. I like it.

People will cry foul to having to submit to a proctored exam. I think this is great. Most state schools don't accept ACE credit though. TESC does.

Like my community college in my area had no problem accepting all my NA credits from Penn Foster, but when I brought up I also took ACE courses from an organization called Straighterline they walked me out the door.. literally. Lol.

Was a year or two back, but yes good news on the article thanks!

That makes no sense. Did they provide a reason? I have taken a number of Penn Foster courses, never used Straighterline, but ACE is ACE. I don't think my ACE transcript even references where the credits were earned.

My community college just told me "NO!" on ACE credit. I even went to the dean, and he told me rules are rules and I couldn't even appeal it. I had a student adviser tell me, "Just CLEP the credits that you previously earned ACE credit on" I told her no, because I worked hard for these credits and I didn't want to CLEP. But I was surprised when they accepted my Penn Foster credit, and they only accepted it because of the national accreditation Penn Foster has. I guess each college enforce different policies and rules. One doesn't accept ACE credit doesn't mean every institution is the same. This is before I found out about the big three and I have graduated from TESC with my BA a couple months ago.

Here's one course on my ACE transcript that clearly specifies the organization it's coming from,

    StraighterLine
    Unique ID: Not Available
    OOSL-0034 01/25/2012 Introduction to Nutrition
48 hours (14 weeks, self-paced). This course provides information on the role of nutrients in the body and their changing needs throughout
various form of human activity and differing stages of the lifecycle, and explores the role of beliefs, attitudes, values, and society in diet and
    nutrition.
Credit Recommendation: In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Health Sciences.

And this is the email that says my ACE courses weren't accepted at my local community college:

    Hi *****

The Associate Registrar reviewed the policy for Program Acceleration and determined that per College policy, ACE credit will not be accepted. If you would like to test out of any of the courses through our Experiential Learning program, you can contact ***** *****, at (***) ***-**** to see if there is a test for the subject you would like credit for. Have a good week-end.

Again, no explanation in that email, but after I went in person demanding an appeal, I was just told only regionally or nationally accredited credits will transfer. They just didn't accept ACE credit not because of Straigtherline, just ACE itself. :(

And this is the money quote here. There are rules of thumb for credit transfer and academic recognition that may serve as a useful starting point, but it's unwise to get too caught up in them when they often don't survive contact with the complexities of the real world.
