    Hey guys,

Im new here and stumbled on the forum last week while researching distance learning. I went to a typical brick & mortar university here in CA back in 2001 but I only went for less than a year. Im now thinking about going back to school for a bachelors in sociology but since I have a full-time job I need something online or via distance learning. I also need something affordable.

My research has led me to CSU-Pueblo. Ive discovered they offer a distance learning degree in sociology or social science and it only costs $17,880.

Aside from what Ive learned so far in my week of research, I have no prior knowledge or experience with distance learning. I also couldnt find many reviews about the distance learning program at CSU-Pueblo. I was hoping someone here has gone thru the program and has some first hand knowledge to pass onto me.

I guess Im just curious if the program is any good and if its worth it. Any tips or advice? What is the format like? etc.

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

I took 6 classes there. So I can't really speak on the overall program (nor the value of a sociology degree in general). But the classes I took had engaged instructors that were interested in their students success. The office staff was always helpful and great to work with. The courses are self paced and asynchronous so you really got to make up your own schedule. None of my classes required proctored exams so i didn't have any experience with that. As you mentioned the price is right, and F/A is available either in a degree program or via consortium agreement with a home institution.

    Best,
    Mike

Great, thanks for the info so far.

How does distance learning compare to an online program? Ive never done either but from what I understand about distance learning, I basically follow the syllabus on my own, do my own book reading, write my paper assignments, submit homework by email, and occasionally take a proctored exam at a local testing center. Does this sound about right?

Ive had friends do the online thing and it always seemed to be full of group assignments, which they hated. I kind of like the idea of being responsible for my own work anyway, and am not too fond of group work.
