ACCA - useful in Canada if complete - with degree.

    Hi -

I'm not guaranteeing, more like guessing - a complete ACCA should get you 25 points for education on your immigration app. ACCA is supposed to be equal to a UK master's. Don't imagine an incomplete one by itself will do you umm - that much good, here in Canada. If you have a complete designation AND a degree, the CGA Association has a reciprocal agreement. You write two exams and you can get a CGA designation and membership. ACCA and a university degree are both required. Some say best jobs go to CGA holders.

You can read more about it here: ACCA-Chartered Accountant

Yes, ACCA has reciprocity with CGA Canada. It may be hard to plan for Canadian immigration at the moment, though. Minister Kenney froze the federal independent immigration scheme until it is revamped early next year, and details are not known at the moment. I believe Canadian Experience Class and Provincial Nominee programs are active.

    Hi,
I completed ACCA and got it evaluated by WES as the equivalent to a Canadian 4 year bachelors. I believe that CGA would require you to finish a BS before you can transfer the ACCA to Canada. There are several schools that would take the ACCA credential for a degree completion.

ACCA has applied few times to get recognition by the government of Ontario as a full fledge accounting designation but now with the merge this might not be happening so fast.

I believe the new program would give preference to people under 35 and with credentials that can be transferable to the Canadian market. As ACCA has an agreement with CGA, it might qualify provided that the individual in question is under 35 and proficient in the use of English and/or French. The new program actuall would require a face to face interview given some fraudelent application of people that supplied exams but were not able to speak the language.

    Dear RF Valve,
Please tell me how you get assessment from EWS. how and which documents you submitted to WES? I am also ACCA qualified but unable to understand the requirements of EWS for assessment of my ACCA degree?

    WES Certification for ACCA qualification

    Hi,

I did my graduation of Commerce from University of Karachi, Pakistan, however it is a 2 year degree program, i.e. total 14 years of total education. Additionally I did ACCA and interested in applying for FSW, however before I start the process of my credentials attested by WES, I have couples of queries to clarified, which are as follows:

    1) Do my graduation and ACCA membership; jointly be considered as equivalent to bachelor according to Canadian education system. I can get the equivalence form Higher Education Commission of Pakistan for Master in Commerce for my ACCA qualification.

    2) What are is the procedure to get and required documents for attesting the degree. I have contacted ACCA regarding this, but they asked me to consult British Council. I talked to them however they will only attest the membership, however as per WES requirement it need to send by issuing institution to WES directly I asked BC but they refused.

Please help me, as the CAP is for only 1000 applications.

    Dear Fahadlhe,

I am also struggling to get the required information, if you find any useful information please share with me. I believe you can get information from British Council or HEC office.

Just to go the WES site and send application for evaluation (World Education Services - International Credential Evaluation Expertise). They will require a copy of your exam results sent directly by ACCA to them.
The problem is that employers are not obliged to accept it and also the fact that ACCA is not a University degree but just a certification. My suggestion is to take the deal with the University of Northampton and upgrade it to a Master's degree (Accounting and Finance (top-up from AIA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA and CPA Australia)). A degree is required in any case for most of the jobs in Canada so you would need to get a degree at some point in any case. Also, WES would give you the equivalent of a BSc degree but if you upgrade then you can make it a MSc by just writing the dissertation.

    Hi RFValve,

Did you get your ACCA equivalence from WES as a ACCA member or affiliate. Does it make any difference if u are an affiliate or a member? I am interested in MBA program in US and I am unable to get information from anywhere. So your response will be highly appreciated.

It doesn't matter if you are an affiliate or member, what matter's is the exams. Just send your ACCA transcript to WES.
The issue is that ACCA exams are not equal to a bachelors degree. I believe they give you 4 or 5 credits per exam that is about 60 credits all together.
If you want to get into an MBA in the US, the best would be to get the Oxford Brookes Bachelors degree that then might give you access to an MBA.

    Hi,

    Please advise:

    1) How would WES Canada assess a 6 months diploma which is done after graduation(full time 3 years). Would it be equivalent to a completed post secondary education in Canada?
    2) How will a ONE YEAR PG diploma from Pune University be evaluated? Would it be equivalent to a completed post secondary education in Canada?
    3) Can I claim points under "Two or more certificates, diplomas or degrees. One must be for a program of three or more years." as show in the CRS calculator with the above listed qualifications.

Any help/suggestion would be highly appreciated.

I'm sorry to be difficult, but no one can tell you with any certainty what the results of a WES evaluation will be. That is the purpose of the evaluation. People might be willing to guess but they'd probably need much more information from you for this guess to be worth anything at all. Consider providing us with more details of your academic history/accomplishments.
