I'm curious to see how public perception would respond to this question...

Here is the question with regards to applicants who hold a regionally accredited masters's degree: If you were a hiring manager for a university, which factor would hold the highest merit to hiring an applicant for online adjunct position?

As someone who IS a hiring manager at a university, my answer would depend upon the position for which I was hiring: full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, admission officer, instructional designer, tutor, learning management system administrator, registrar, financial planning officer, student services coordinator, subject matter expert for course design, etc., etc. Different positions would consider the above criteria differently.

I'm the one who voted "other." I've been under the impression that universities hire faculty for the purpose of not just filling positions but for filling holes in their spectrum of teaching/research expertise. They don't just want someone with a PhD in History (or whatever), they want someone with expertise in Early Eastern European history and you get extra points for having a post-modern perspective and the ability to write a book that might appeal to a wider audience outside sequestered academia. I've gotten the idea that just having the degree and just having the basic micro-subject expertise is not often enough. With so few openings and so many candidates it's easy to see how universities can be so selective.
