"Adam Smith University is accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Liberia.
In France, Adam Smith University is an association designated by the French National Ministry of Education as a private institution of Higher Education by correspondence under the Law of 12 July 1875 and under the Decree of 25 January 1876 to offer higher education to national and international students. The French address of ASU is:
Adam Smith University Chez Eugenie Darrieux 2 Residence Les Chenes, 64300 Salles-Mongiscard, France"

Could this be the same ASU previously of Hawaii & South Dakota?

  2. Same one.

I thought they had "moved" to Saipan, Mariana Is.

They have umcampuses in Saipan (the main campus, which is a post office box), Liberia, France, the British Virgin Islands, Liberia, and Great Falls, Montana. And all run, I think, from the president's home or office in upstate New York.

We were all amused when they insisted that their 29,000 book library was at their South Dakota campus (which was a mail forwarding service).

Since said library is still mentioned on their website, one wonders which mailbox it has been crammed into now.

  4. Wow, this sounds like my kind of place.. a degree to accompany that blank Liberian diplomatic passport I've been saving for a special occasion.* The two documents will have about the same value and validity, coming from a country with no real infrastructure, colleges, or much else after about 15 years of continuous anarchy.

Interesting concept, though.. Liberia's government (such as it is) is famous for their business of registering foreign ships of all descriptions under the Liberian flag-- a "flag of convenience." Perhaps some enterprising soul decided to do the same with educational institutions?

*(Note to Liberian officials: Don't worry, I actually center-punched it.)

    A big Mess!

It’s a big mess. We need to educate these foreign Ministry of Education about U.S education system. And we need a centralize eduation system. Some diploma mills schools operate in the U.S are chartered to GAAP schools (not realizing these schools are mills)

    Huh?

If I read this correctly, Tommy is saying there are diploma mills with operating arrangements with GAAP foreign schools. Other than the infamous MIGS, are there any others? (Not Trinity/Liverpool; Trinity doesn't award Liverpool's degrees. We're talking about degree mills awarding other schools' degrees, I think? )

  7. Knightsbridge offers tutoring towards University of London degrees. But students need to take the London exams and earn a legitimate degree. And Knightsbridge is unaccredited, but not necessarily a mill.

But it is the performance on the exams that earns the degree, not the study with Knightsbridge, right?

Are there any degree mills (or even plain ol' unaccredited schools) in the U.S. that are arranging for the award of degrees from foreign schools that meet GAAP? That's the issue originally raised. I can't think of any.

  9. I can't think of any either.

There was a discussion of the inverse situation (foreign mill offering US RA degrees) here a short while ago. This was the one about ISE in Israel offering Burlington degrees: Article "Police probe of Fraudulent Degrees".
