All: My first forum post. I am interested in UNISA's programs in business, primarily to obtain an equivalent to regional accreditation in accounting. However, several of the programs are labeled "repeaters only until ______" What does this mean? Also, I wanted to note that though many of the threads on this board say that Pretoria, Free State, and Zululand are available via distance, in my experience so far they are not. FS requires 2 or 3 annual trips to South Africa (kind of kills the distance advantage), and Zululand flat out told me they don't do distance and referred me to UNISA. I guess I am frustrated because I hear about the stories of people pulling this off, and I am just not seeing it in practice. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks
FS does not require trips to ZA, in my case. They were willing to work with me. I can get you a point of contact, if you like. What is your intended course of study!
Thanks! Yes, I am interested in doctoral programs in business administration! Any contact you have would be appreciated. I hit the main website contact and they told me 2-3 trips per year would be required. Thanks so much!!
See http://bus.ufs.ac.za/dl/userfiles/Documents/00000/706_eng.pdf There is a January 15 deadline for the PhD program, but here is the "But"..... you will need to have a research Master's Degree. If not, you may ask to take the MBA field study as a prequalification. That will take you about a year, and those applications are also due soon. They are bricks and mortar based, so you will receive lots of invitations to things that you cannot attend. Be prepared to submit lots of paperwork for admission, and you need to have a topic selected prior to being accepted. They are very straightforward, and you will not get the UNISA runaround, delays or cold shoulder. contact: Mrs. E. I would like to enroll in a PhD in English. I would appreciate any information you may have on a contact person. Thanks.
I would contact Professor Weidemen, the head of the English Department. See Faculty of The Humanities UFS Staff List
Sorry to be late to this thread. I think I have the answer to the question of "repeaters." A UNISA PhD is a dissertation-only, research program (actually they refer to Masters dissertations and doctoral theses, the opposite of the USA). Because of this you actually only take one course, it's the doctoral research course, usually coded in the 900's, and you register for that same course every semester until you finish. This makes you a "repeater" and you might repeat that course 8-12 times before you earn your degree.
Correct. You are correct. My course is called Dis 8193. Now that is just for me. Not sure about others...
