Does anyone know of textbook seller websites where I can easily search for college course videos/CD's? I'm not looking to enroll in anything for credit, but I know a lot of schools have videotaped/CD courses that they sell through companies like MBS Direct, but I can't find an online textbook seller with a search capacity that easily seeks out all videos/CD's (most, like MBS Direct, want you to choose your school first, but they seem to list every school imaginable rather than those school with whom they have agreements).

Alternately, if anyone knows of schools that have put out a number of videotapes liberal arts and social science course videos/CD's, please let me know so I can go to those school websites and try to navigate from there. Basically I'm looking to buy them for personal use and enjoyment. Thanks VERY MUCH for any responses!

    What a great question.

For years, ever since I rented (and thoroughly enjoyed) an 8-hour Superstar Lecture Series videocassette pack on ancient Greek philosophy, I've looked for a good "dirt cheap used lecture tapes" outlet. No luck.

There _is_ one company that sells videotaped lectures from real college courses, but I can't recall the name--it includes the word "Academy," its logo is a torch, it recently did a tape on Augustine, and its prices are too high for my budget. Other than that, I'm drawing a blank.

I hope other folks chime in here with some useful information. Good luck!

    Cheers,

World Lecture Hall is administrated by the University of Texas Austin. It publishes links to pages created by faculty worldwide who are using the Web to deliver course materials, but also includes video and audio selections. All courses are university-level, and some offer college credit through distance learning. All are courses offered at accredited colleges and universities around the world, and all course materials reachable through WLH are free and publicly available. Use the Advanced Search, select that all the results include video, and you should be able to find a few courses of interest.

You may also want to explore PBS’s Adult Learning Service. Some of their Telecourses are offered via videotape and may be available for free on a local television station, often in cooperation with a local college or university.

Similarly, Annenberg/CPB, a joint project of the Annenberg Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcast offers numerous video courses for sale on their Web site (click on Video Catalog), and some may be also be broadcast free on a local television station (click on Channel).

Good Morning, Fort Hayes offers courses that are supported by tape. I think you could order them through the Liberal Studies Graduate Department. Hille

    Here's one:

First, through the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) which has a searchable database of course offerings from pre-kindergarten to Graduate. You are able to search available formats like: CD-Rom, compressed video, video (VCR), satellite, online, etcetera... http://www.electroniccampus.org/student/scripts/search/coursesearch.asp?Term=1&TermName=Continuous Nice selection.

The next may be an alternative:

WizeUp offers digital textbooks (http://www.wizeup.com/) with a decent database of a variety of subject matter. I casually sellected a few of the text books and it looks like the pricing is around $50-70 per title.
