Has anyone here taken an online class at TESC, and were successfully able to withdraw from the class with financial aid intact after testing out with CLEP or DSST? Does anyone know if that's a viable option?

You can probably get by if your remaining course load is large enough to maintain your current status. For example, if you were taking 15 hours and dropped a class and kept the other 12 you would still be fulltime.

So you're enrolled in a class that you have found a CLEP option for and you want to drop the class, do I understand? You need to maintain half time enrollment at TESC to keep FA going.
Just my humble opinion, before enrollment starts for next term, draw up a sold degree plan so you don't have this come up again.
Use your year to take the classes you can NOT clep out of and take the upper levels at TESC. This will save you big $. You will, likely, not get much of a refund if you drop now. Ouch. Besides, TESC starts to get REALLY FREAKING EXPENSIVE if you're taking classes. The whole point of a zero residency is that it allows you to price shop.

Im only taking 2 classes. The exam would replace a class taken because the grade to be received in the class will likely lower a perfect GPA.

CLEP/DSST dont count towards the total hours for FA. You will be dropping below what FAFSA considers part time and render yourself ineligible for aid...they can request you return any funds dispersed and hold up your aid till its taken care of. I don't know if this is what will happen...but it is my understanding of the rules.

Can you pick up another course instead and get it completed in time? That would protect your six hours. If not from TESC perhaps a course via independent study at BYU, LSU, or CSU-Pueblo?

Good thinking, rebel. I think I will do that. But my next question is if TESC will add the class to my total GPA if I graduate before the new class is finished?

Rebel, I luv ya, but this is not good thinking. A few things. Your FA can only be used at 1 school, so TESC is the only place that he can use aid since he's already rec'd it. You can, of course, enroll somewhere and pay cash, BUT you will not get QUALITY POINTS TOWARD YOUR GPA for transfer credit.

I think you should just ask for an extension (a few bucks) burn the midnight oil and rock this out. If you drop you'll have to repay $ and if you don't improve you'll have the lower GPA. You don't need an "A" you need to pass. What quarter are you in ? You'll get FA for 4 quarters- if you have add'l quarters remaining, you can offset a poor grade with better ones. If you lose your FA, you'll also owe this money plus you'll have to start repaying your loans. This will be a big expensive mess. How important is this GPA issue??? I can't imagine that it's this big of a deal?

Additionally, the specific question you asked about dropping and replacing with a CLEP is *I think* is addressed in teh college catalog and not allowed, but a quick call to an advisor (don't ask the question, ask the advisor to direct you to the written policy) will help you decide.
