I have a packed schedule and need to take 'Medical Terminology', 'Pathophysiology' and 'Physics' (doesn't require a lab) during the short winter session (4/5 weeks) before I start some really intense courses next Feb. In southern California many of the winter sessions at local public community colleges have been cancelled until further notice. I don't have the financial resources to take courses at National University or other colleges that are typically suggested. The courses need to be no more than $150 each. Because these are prerequisites for a Health Sciences major I can't test out of them. I know Excelsior offers a Patho exam for only $95 which be perfect if it met my needs. Straighterline isn't regionally accredited (?) so their MT and Physics courses won't work either.

Are there any colleges that might work?

I think there may be nothing if that's an absolute bar and no community college in your state can do it. Check elsewhere in CA, and think about whether you can go any higher in price. 50 per semester hour as an absolute maximum is extremely low.

I've posted 2 separate responses that didn't show up. The following is an abridged version *tired*:

California Community Colleges charge $46 (recently increased from $36 and $26 respectively in a short period of time). Normally I wouldn't have a problem meeting my needs because there was a 4 to 5 week Winter session offered. I've found a solution for 2 out of the 3 courses (I'm delaying Physics until the spring, taking Patho via Excelsior which is acceptable because it's graded). I'm currently online researching whether or not MT via CSU Long Beach continuing education will meet time, unit and college-level requirements. Price wouldn't be an issue if TESC disbursed Financial Aid when you actually NEED it instead of when you're half-way done.

Here is a post for you... Get associated with reality!!!

You're expectation are unreal. Jonathan Whatley advised you in earlier that there is a slim to none chance that you can find those classes, for $150 max, and enroll whenever you please. I think the best option is to just eat up the cost factor, and figure out a possible way to get the classes by what ever financial means possible. Life it tough and there sometimes are no easy ways out of achieving the goals we want to accomplish other than by overcoming obstacles that which are difficult.

Santa Monica College still has winter sessions and you can take a non-lab physics course there. Their schedule for the 2013 winter session hasn't been posted yet, but you can browse through their 2012 schedule: SMC Schedule of Classes Winter 2012

Yeah, sorry about that. Your being moderated like that is an automatic thing that we have no control over. Keep on posting and you will get past that soon. Whenever any of us are online, the first thing we do is approve all of the non-spam posts, but sometimes you end up waiting if none of us are online for awhile.

Thanks, atrox79. I'm currently taking online courses at SMC and I asked about a potential Winter 2013 session before this fall semester started. I was told that it was cancelled until further notice. Have you heard something different recently? Other than their ESL institute (?) I don't see anything on their site. I'll call them on Monday to make sure.

Hmmm...that's interesting. I haven't heard any news, but I know there was a rumor a couple years back about SMC canceling winter sessions but all they ended up doing was getting rid of the evening courses. It could be that they decided to do away with the winter session altogether, though that would be a shame. SMC cracks me up with all their whining about budget cuts, especially considering that they are always renovating the campus with aesthetic improvements like water fountains and palm trees.

Yeah, I would keep checking with them and keep your eye out for an upcoming winter schedule or "official" announcement. Though I doubt they'll get rid of the entire winter session. At worst, they'll just reduce the class offerings, which they do every semester anyway. According to this calendar, the winter 2013 session is set to start on January 2, 2013. When the new winter schedule comes up, it'll be posted to this webpage, so just bookmark it and keep checking.

SMC makes a lot of money from International and non-resident students (not to mention Alumni). They're more fortunate that other CCs. I also take online classes via the LACCD and the district's winter session has also been put on hold. I even tried Pasadena City and they've now starting their "Spring" term when winter would've started and then doing a 6 week 'Summer' session that ends when their Spring term usually would've. All this to try and meet budget term restraints and help students get their classes. I hope things start looking up.

I'd be interested to learn how you know this to be true.
