If it has been, apologies. Went back a few pages but didn't see anything.

St. Thomas University in Miami. Reputable, RA, Roman Catholic school.

60 hours total beyond the Masters, 48 class hours, 12 dissertation hours. 6 week courses. A little unclear on their tuition, so sent the school the question (haven't heard back yet). Tuition page says their doctoral programs are $837 per credit hour, but that their online graduate cohort programs are $544 per credit hour. Not sure if that $837 is for their doctoral programs across the board, or just in residence.

REALLY good deal if it is the $544 since the class formats make it possible to finish in 3 years.

Anyone checked this one out yet?

I looked at the program curriculum. It seems to be nice, and there is no Educational courses (Education field). Why's it is Ed.D instead DM (Doctor of Management) or Ph.D in Leadership & Management?

"EDL 801 Theory and Practice of Leadership
    EDL 803 Information Management Systems
EDL 804 Management of Crisis and Change
EDL 805 Strategic Management of Global Change
EDL 806 Fiscal and Economic Accountability in Leadership
EDL 815 Public Policy Leadership and Management
    EDL 821 Qualitative Research
    EDL 820 Quantitative Research
MAN 807 Ethics, Corporate Control and Governance
MAN 808 Human Resources Development and Management
    MAN 809 Innovation and Entrepreneurship
MAN 813 Leading A Learning Organization
MAN 814 Cross Cultural Relations in Management
MAN 816 Consulting Management and Practice
MAN 817 Managing Social Media in Organizations
    MAN 819 Managing Performance"

Good question...wondered the same thing. The program intro even says it's geared towards management types...not necessarily educators.

    I haven't got 50K. That's why I'm not talking about it.

TEKMAN - I'm pretty sure those are "Educational Leadership" courses.
Kizmet - If the credits really are $544, then this program is nowhere near 50K.

The op said 837 per credit hour. You do the math. If you think that's wrong then you can be a smart noob and do some actual research and post a link instead of making blind criticisms (btw, I don't have 32K either).

This appears to be the only doctoral program that the university offers. Often, a university wishing to offer its first doctoral degree will choose an Ed.D. or DBA. Even though research has failed to find consistent differences between those degrees and the Ph.D., it is easier for universities to get Ed.D. and D.B.A. degrees approved, than it is for Ph.D.s. I have seen this on many occasions (e.g. the California State Universities being allowed to offer Ed.D.s and D.B.A.s, but not Ph.D.s; the DETC authorized to accredit Ed.D. and D.B.A. programs, but not Ph.D. programs). The differences are based more on perception than reality. Thanks to that perception, some universities are able to offer doctoral degrees when, otherwise, there would be too much opposition from Ph.D.-granting institutions that would not welcome the direct competition with their programs.

Once upon a time, St. Thomas University offered an online LLM in International Human Rights that, at least in theory, one could apply for without a previous degree in law. It wasn't bar qualifying, though, even in Florida.

It also lists $544 per credit for graduate courses held off-campus. Being that this Ed.D is online I think this would qualify. At 60 credits for the program, you are looking at a $33K doctorate. If you think that is expensive , then perhaps you aren't serious, because that is rock bottom for anyplace that you want to get a degree from and not be ashamed of putting the name down on paper.

Maybe, but it's still a dangerous assumption. Anyone want to call them to know for sure?

It's not rock bottom, but I agree that it's on the low end for doctoral programs from regionally accredited American schools.
