Anyone know of any online Masters degrees in Human Rights? Would prefer International Human Rights, but that can also be a specialization, if not the entire degree. I'm having a hard time finding anything that isn't from Australia or the UK, and it would need to be a US degree.
You might want to focus on international relations, of which there are some master's online including Troy, Salve Regina, and St. Mary's (Texas). There is also an international development program at Southern Miss., but it might be a PhD only program. Syracuse's master of social science has annual themes that include human rights issues. Norwich has a master's of diplomacy. You might find some programs on genocide and the holocaust as well. You might also follow a standard route in the humanities or social sciences and focus all your papers on human rights issues. Literature and history are two subjects where you can investigate human rights in almost any course. If I wanted to study human rights, I'd do it through education, law, administration or social work, so that I could get a job when I graduated.
I have no interest in education, law, or administration. My interests lie in the international arena, particularly in the human rights field. Diplomacy might not be bad, but I really want something with a more human rights flavor that will be reflected in the degree itself, either by way of a specialization or an actual human rights degree. My goal is to become employable, but not in the education, law, or administrative fields. I know, makes it a bit tough. That's why I'm asking you guys for help. lol
What about equity studies? Athabasca University (RA Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)): MA - Integrated Studies (focus in equity studies) Focus Areas : Master of Arts - Integrated Studies : Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences : Athabasca University Just out of curiosity; why would a legitimate UK or Australian human rights degree not be a viable option?
It probably doesn't meet all your criteria, but there's one that's largely distance offered by Oxford: Master's in International Human Rights Law (part-time)
St. Thomas University in South Florida used to offer an LLM in International Human Rights online that allowed those without a first degree in law to apply. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it on their web site in years, so I think the program was discontinued.
The Masters of Religion with a concentration in Peace and Justice Studies looks interesting: Peace & Justice | Earlham School of Religion
Perhaps you might consider a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies. You could load up on Human Rights courses, International Law courses, all from different sources, and use them to create a degree program for yourself. Here's an example of courses that could be available to you: Human Rights training courses (distance learning) - Global Notes
This thread is a bit old now already. But in case somebody still needs a valuable answer: Here are A LOT of human rights master programs listed.
