Hello Everyone, I'm currently enrolled at AMU's BA Intelligence Studies. I am required 27 free electives, and I was just wondering... Does anyone know what FEMA courses AMU will accept for the free electives? Being military, I take CLEP exams for free. Therefore I will be taking a few CLEP exams to fill my GenEd requirements. If you have any other information about Testing Credits that AMU granted you, please feel free to share. Thanks in advance.
What is your rank/branch and did you send in a transcript of your military training to AMU for review? I ask because my SMART transcript (Navy) knocked out all of my electives and my AA knocked out what was left plus a few Gen Eds. Just wanted to see if you let them see your military training. Many military courses are ACE accredited and can be accepted as course credit, especially at schools with "friendly" transfer policies like AMU.
Yes Army would be the branch. I have sent them my AARTS transcript yet because I thought I needed to send them all of my transfer evaluations at the same time.
At AMU after you pay the Transfer Credit Evaluation fee you can have it "re-evaluated" multiple times. Sorry that I paid more attention to the question then to the username lol.
This...I've done this twice and have never had a problem. AMU really does go out of their way in this respect.
I don't specifically know about AMU...but FEMA courses are evaluated by several colleges and other schools will often use these evaluations when granting credit. The foremost college evaluating FEMA credit is Frederick CC which is actually right down the road from the FEMA Institute in , of all places, Frederick Maryland. You can tell which courses are evaluated by FCC when you look at the courses on the FEMA website. If the course indicates a number then it is eligible for credit via FCC or any school that accepts their evaluation criteria Emergency Management Institute - FEMA Independent Study Program Charter Oak is notable here as they are a school that readily accepts the FCC evaluation of FEMA credit. Thomas Edison has a separate, though liberal, set of courses they have evaluated for credit. It is not as liberal as the FCC criteria but still includes 32 credits. The list should come up with a little google fu. Or send me your e-mail and i will get you a copy if you need it. Both criteria above include credit for the FEMA Professional Development Series or PDS. This is 7-8 courses that are eligible for credit that culminate on their own for FEMA certification. My PDS is listed on my resume, and I occasionally see the cert as required for various emergency management/homeland security jobs...I recommend you start with these for your purpose...of course confirm with AMU first. Emergency Management Institute - FEMA Independent Study Program - Search http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/pds/PDS%20Brochure.pdf AMU/APU does list FEMA...but shows little in specifics. Accepted Certificates
Just a little update here: I emailed the Advising Dept and did not get a specific answer on which FEMA certificates they would accept. I will be contacting them more to figure it out, if possible. Does anyone happen to know how closely AMU grants credit for military training to the ACE recommendations?
