I got this in an email. It gives me more evidence that I am a raving EDUHOLIC, because I am tempted. :Eyecrazy: Randell, you are not alone.

"The MPH degree focuses on preparing the professional with the knowledge and skills necessary to analyze and implement solutions to public health problems at the community, institutional and societal levels. Public health goes beyond the health needs of the individual and addresses the desire to achieve and maintain good health and quality of life for entire populations. Students seeking a degree in public health at Liberty University will take classes in each of five core disciplines : Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health Sciences, Health Policy and Management, and Social and Behavioral Sciences; with a specialization in Nutrition."

"The Master of Public Health Program at Liberty University is for individuals wishing to impact the world for Christ through the ministry of health."

    Wow.

Does that mean "Wow, cool" or "Wow, lame?" Not that it matters, just curious.

More of the latter. Of course, to each his or her own. I understand that Liberty is an ultra-conservative Christian school. Just a bit surprising that they would bring religion into an MPH program. Kind of square peg/round hole, if you ask me. This kind of reminds me of my 11th grade history teacher who always related everything back to football (his favorite sport, apparently). The topic could have been about the Ming Dynasty, The Great Depression or George Washington - it all related back to football!

    Ming Dynasty/football analogies? That's funny.

If you know Liberty, you know that everything they do will have a strong biblical element. Not surprising at all and a rather unique way to offer an MPH, possibly the first I have seen like that. Might be useful for evangelical relief organization leaders and similar.

The Liberty MPH program is not accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), which is the programmatic accreditor for public health as recognized by USDoE. Liberty is not shown on the CEPH applicant list either.

CEPH accreditation is not mandatory for public health degrees, but in practice many jobs, doctoral programs, internships, etc. prefer or require accredited degrees. Some other schools offer CEPH-accredited degrees via DL; you can search for online programs at the CEPH website.

Some religious schools do have CEPH-accredited public health programs, like St Louis University (Catholic) or Brigham Young (LDS)

Isn't a coaching certificate a prerequisite to teach history?

I think MPH/Epidemiology degrees are cool. Lots of research-based stuff, lots of stats. It also has a peripheral tie-in with an interest of mine - Demography.

+1 I've been looking for a good MPH program w/ a concentration in Epi. I've even considered the MSc in Epi offered by U of L.

MPH and missions go together very well.

Aren't health initiatives one of the ways missionaries make an impact in rough places? It seems like a good degree for anyone who plans that type of work.
