Couple of weeks ago I found out that I still had about 12-months left on my Post 9/11 GI Bill. Therefore, I started looking for something. First, I began looking at different certificate programs and so forth, then I realized that that I wanted something just for fun this time, nothing academic, I wanted to have fun in my program and in the subject matter I was about to embark upon. Therefore, as a life-long gamer-since the time of ColecoVision and Atari 2600-the idea of Full Sail hit me. I knew Full Sail has an MFA creative writing program geared towards gaming and script writing, so I decided to apply and submitted all my material. Needless to say I start the program October 22. I know Full Sail is a nationally accredited for-profit monster, however, I will not be using this degree for job purposes, it is purely as hobby an as a deep interest in gaming, besides I already have my other RA degrees. I know Full Sail is expensive, my particular program costs $34,000, this includes tuition, and a Mac Book Pro with all the writing software needed for the program. However, I will be using my Post 9/11 GI Bill to pay for it, this particular program is 12-months long, which is exactly what I have left on my Post 9/11 GI Bill, and Full Sail is a Yellow Ribbon school, so I will not have any out-of-pocket expense for this program. I will keep you all updated, wish me luck...:dance:

You already have a master's degree in professional writing. Why bother with another writing degree? If you really enjoy writing, why not just try to write and publish a novel?

Also, since public administration seems to be your primary field of expertise, why not just go for the DPA through Valdosta State University?

Completely different focus between the two programs, the professional writing program concentrates more on writing from a technical/business perspective. All of the courses at Chatham were geared towards industry. With Full Sail is different, the focus is in creative writing, more specifically gaming. With regards to publishing a novel, well, this was never the purpose of the Chatham professional writing program.

Because I have absolutely no desire for a doctorate degree, nor do I want to enter academia. In addition, I do some light consulting on the side, and my MPPA, along with my work experience has served me well. Again the Full Sail degree is more of a hobby for me, I like gaming, I have been a life-long gamer, and this is something fun to do. I don't think the DPA would be as much fun. Again everything in life is not about ROI or what needs to be done with the degree.

    +1
Also, I've always had an interest in Full Sail since reading an article about their gaming programs in either EGM or GamePro, don't remember which one, when I was a teenager in the late 80's early 90's.

My older brother attends at Full Sail, and he loves it. Although, it's quite expensive. Are you attending online or campus?

I will be attending their online program. I know Full Sail is quite expensive, however, my Post 9/11 GI Bill is paying, I'm basically going there for free. I also get a living stipend (BAH) of $680 a month, not too shabby. I know I could do something else, however, I've always wanted to try my hands at creative writing, specifically gaming, and now I get the opportunity to do so, for free!

  17. Good ole Post 9/11 GI Bill. I used it for law school and still have some left. You can't really beat having tuition covered AND receiving BAH.
