When I first joined this site 4ish months ago, I had just started at a for-profit that was nationally accredited. I was all excited about it because I couldn't find any bad reviews about the school, I liked the programs, the staff and teachers were excellent, and the academics rigorous. Sounds good, right? Well, I just found out TODAY that 3 people so far from this school CANNOT get their credits to transfer to a regionally accredited school, 1 cannot get a job with the NA degree, 2 cannot get into a RA grad school, and 2 don't have the international "clout" they thought they would with degrees from here because it seems this school GROSSLY exaggerated their international standing. I only took 2 classes there (which helped me be able to test out of them here at ASU, so I guess thats good lol) before the good folks here taught me what to look for, what's important, and about price and accreditation. So THANK YOU for helping me avoid the pitfalls that so many are falling into. THANK YOU for telling me about ASU's online programs and about the tests I could take to knock out some classes (besides the ones I transferred in). This board is a lifesaver, a wealth of information, and usually a great read ;) I appreciate everything you guys did for me, and I just wanted to tell you that.

    NMTTD,

I feel the same way. About 2 years ago, I was about to attend at ITT Tech (which is like one of the worst national accredited school IMO) and then I came across this site and read that NA school cannot possibly transfer to RA college and universities. Though, I couldn't get accepted in a regular university, so I attended Strayer University for the time being and earn enough credits to transfer into a well known school like GCU. However, I must ask what NA school that you quit attending? I like to know for future reference if any of my siblings wanted to go, and show them this post to remind them the problems they might encounter.

    Yep.

No problem. I was having a conversation yesterday with one of my colleagues and wondering out loud why we have an RA School in Fort Wayne (Brown Mackie), when we have several quality colleges here to attend?

I have a similar life-saving story. I'm glad we could help. Note that many people are happy with their nationally accredited schools, but each person needs to find what works best to meet his or her goals. Please stick around. Next time it could be you coming to someone else's rescue :wavey:

The college I am referring to is Schiller International University. And yes, I now attend Arizona State University. I'm not going anywhere. I love this board, and I'm glad to be here. I also attended Ashford, and MAN am I glad I got out before the poo hit the fan!! ;)

Schiller International University? I have never heard of that school before, ah well. At least you're out of it. As for Ashford, losing their one of their accreditation was definitely a good sign.

That is an outstanding educational testimony. Too many people are falling into the NA/DETC trap without understanding the limited utility of those kinds of non-RA degrees. It is tragic for a person to spend so much time and money on a NA/DETC degree, only to learn afterwards that it doesn't have the same utility of a RA degree. It's heartbreaking.

You'll find a lot on them in my posthumous edition . . . but not yet; I'm still prehumous.

I think NA/DETC degrees have their place. I mean, if you plan to get your undergrad and grad degrees from an NA institution and you already have a job and just need the degrees to get ahead (and the employer doesnt care if the degree is NA or RA), or if you want the degree(s) for personal interests, then they can serve you quite well. If you are looking at getting a job using the degrees and the potential employer expresses that they dont care if the degree is NA or RA just so long as its accredited, then you're ok. But anything other than these scenarios can - and usually do - end up badly. I never paid attention to that until I joined this board. The amount I have learned in my 4+ months here has been invaluable. So THANK YOU. :D

I will agree with this...if..and ONLY if...the NA degree is significantly cheaper than an equivalent RA option. What baffles me is that some NA schools charge as much or more than RA schools for similar programs. If you are going to lose utility, then this should be offset by a lower cost.

Many NA degrees fit this description, but some do not.

They have a campus just north of where I live. The school is respected in this area and I know someone that attended the MBA program and has done well for herself.
