University of North London and London Guildhall University agreed to merge in 2001. Many people prefer this new name, LONDON METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY.

We have only one Metropolitan University here in US, right?
The FMU. UK has MMU already. LMU will be the second.

    Have fun.

I suppose it is ok, though it sounds something like an insurance company--better than London Rural College or London Learning Urban Centre (LUCK)

    Happy Easter!

The fake doctor I testified against recently bought his M.D. for $100 from Metropolitan Collegiate, aka Metropolitan University, in London. They advertised regularly in the US for about 15 years (early 70s to mid 80s), which suggests there may be more than a few alumni out there practicing medicine.

  6. There's also non-wonderful "Dublin Metropolitan University" discussed here recently.

Besides Metropolitan Universities, there are plenty of places called City University or City College.

Colin Powell graduated from New York City's familiar City College of New York, a component of that city's multicampus City University of New York. There is a fully legitimate Dublin City University already, besides the spurious Dublin Metropolitan University that was probably named in order to cause confusion with it. There's a City University in Seattle. I did about 60 units at resolutely proletarian City College of San Francisco, a community college.

I guess that London will now have a choice between a City University and a Metropolitan University.

It seems to me that places with the name City University or Metropolitan University are more apt to be working class schools that stress educational opportunity.

First, correction: In UK, besides Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), there is also a Leeds Metropolitan University (LMU). So this new London Metropolitan University (2nd LMU, if they finally decide) will be the 3rd MU in UK.

Second, I agree with Bill. CU or MU may sounds more like your hometown university for the general public.
